Jello with soda?

Since people make jello with booze, I guess this shouldn't surprise me.

But I was making some jello yesterday and saw on the back of the box they recommend for a "twist" using a soda to replace the cold water.  I was skeptical, but poured in almost two cans of my diet squirt to go with the cherry jello I had mixed up and I'm having my first bowl now.

It's REALLY good!  A lot better than just normal jello.

Now I'm thinking I gotta try some creme soda with different flavors!

Anyone else ever try this?

I'm sure it is good, but I haven't tried it. Pretty much if I am messin' w/jello then alcohol is going in! biggrin

Ouch! Screwing up jello, that's pretty bad. I've never been able to get peices of fruit to float in my jello. when I put fruit in it all just falls to the bottom :(

Web, it REALLY is good! It's kind of weird, obviously the carbonation is gone, yet it's got a bit of a fizzy tang to it.

I think cream soda would taste GREAT. But I don't know if there's a diet cream available.

Well, I'll tell ya what.  I've never had Jello shots, but during the next cookout I'm makin' some.

I'll buy some cinnamin schnapps.  I had this stuff a few years ago called fire-water, with goofy crystals in it.  Man that stuff burned!  I bet it would be great in some jello.

What happens if you boil soda?

Could I use some flat coke for the boiled water, and then use jack daniels for the cold?

Awe, that's just WRONG!  Celery in your jello?  I think she was just trying to trick you into eating your vegetables.

You're right, I recall seeing diet A&W Cream soda!  Thanks DS.  It's off to the store tomorrow.

Wow, I'll have to try adding some soda to jello next time I make some.....never thought of doing that.  I usually just add fruit or like Woo, some alcohol goes in.

JR....to get your fruit to float in it, you have to let the jello "set up" a little bit....which means letting it thicken somewhat before you add the fruit.  smile

I want to say they had a special jello there for a while, I think they called it sparkling jello, that you were supposed to use sparking grape juice with. I remember I made it once and was unimpressed, but this had to be over 10 years ago.

I just did some reading online and have found that apparantly there is no difference between sparkling jello and regular jello other than a box that calls it "sparkling" jello and has different instructions.  The ingredients are supposedly identical.

A lot of people say they made sparkling jello by making regular jello, but before adding soda or seltzer they put the mix in the fridge for 10 minutes to cool and then added the carbonated beverage.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow biggrin.gif

I think all of our moms had the same weird jello cookbook or something cuz my mom did the same thing!!

My granny knew how to make jello rock.....she'd let orange jello completely firm up, then she'd mix mandarin orange slices, shredded coconut, and miniature marshmallows in it.......yum!!  I still make this for my kids....well, ok, for me too, haha.

I'd like to point out that I have a cool mom who never subjected me to weird jello. Now my mom does have a jello jigglers problem, she likes to get all the molds.
