might it be a better world...thread

if news covered news-worthy items instead of self-centered celebrity pieces of **** who are bored with their fame and wealth deciding to make asses of themselves?

might it be a better world if news simply went away?

yes, and no.

yes because like you said we would hear less about what paris hilton, or nichole richie wears to the oscars.

and no because we would not hear about poeple that are suffering, like the first reports from virginia tech, or the tsunami victims.

so poeple would not have the information needed to send help to the ones in need.

If I am interested in what is happening and how I can be of help to others, I am willing to listen to the fluff portion of news.

I hear you willy. I just miss the ratio of 90% news vs 10% fluff of back when. not its like 80% fluff vs 20% news.

i have to agree. i am just tired of hearing ...."Something your baby is playing with right now could give them cancer! News at 11!"......"Could your car blow up? A Nightline Special tomorrow night!" I don't want to know at 11 or tomorrow night! I want to know now and STOP trying to scare the **** out of me!!!!

I'm going to agree. I'd also like to chime in with the thought that I'm really tired of hearing how difficult it is to fill a 24 hour news cycle without reporting on the garbage. I think that it would be entirely possible to limit the fluff and better inform society in a 24 hour news cycle if the news was not considered "entertainment".

Switch to PBS and NPR, and you'll be fine!!!! That's all I watch or listen to when it comes to news.

I was at a friend's house last weekend and we were watching something on Fox (Simpsons maybe). They kept showing a commercial about an overpass that was destroyed by a crashed tanker and saying, "Did the tanker and rescue crew make it out alive? Find out at 10!" Come on! This isn't Hollywood! These are REAL people we're talking about!

So the solution is to stop watching it. I'm telling ya, switch to PBS. The News Hour with Jim Lehrer rocks.

I'm probably going to have to do that Mz. When I want my info-tainment I watch The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. I generally want news when I want news.

Yeah, think about how sadistic that is to begin with!

"We know of something that could KILL YOUR CHILD!  We sure hope you can be here tomorrow to find out what it is.  We'd hate to see that precious kid of yours die, but we have a commercial break to go to right now"
