Good day all. Not a whole lot planned for today, some chores, but I'm really hoping to hear from a job today.

what he ^ said

Typical tired Monday for me. We, the parents, sat down with the girl yesterday to have the big talk. We explained that we didn't feel she was respectful and mature enough to begin drivers training. After that I don't think she really got anything else. It took all my strength not to go off and slap her! What was getting to me was everytime we made a point she would say "You're saying that, not me." This was her tactic and then the "I'm not gonna say anything because it won't do me any good." She also decided that since we were making such a big deal about having to meet her demands in order to get her for a weekend that she would just no longer ask for anything. We all just told her that was her choice. It was a very long talk. Or a lot of our talking since for the most part she chose not to contribute other than to try and be hurtful. So it seems that she is taking the hard road. I was also telling my husband that I now feel like we have to one day a week call and talk to the girl and then another day call and talk to the ex to make sure she is sticking to the plan and not just giving in. hmm

Hmmmm, I am upset with what Ruby said. tears.gif, I hope you find the strength to move forward and stay strong.

Mz, hope you get the job

Ghost, I am throwing Immune system strengthener your way so you don't get sick.

and Woo, the teenage years are horrible, but stand your ground, you know in a few years, she'll respect what you are doing, because it was for her own good. I think Kaisha is just finally getting why I was the way I was when she was a teenager, and younger.

News about me: I'm still going to Roller Derby practice this Thursday, looking forward to it. And my BF is starting the police academy today. He was nervous but anxious all weekend. It was like a roller coaster ride for me all weekend....with him!

Woo, sometimes as parents you have to set hard, fast rules and limits....and her response is pretty typical of a teenager.  I hope all of you stay firm on the "no driver's training until" approach!!  Since most kids can't wait to drive, this is usually one of the most used deterents to change negative behaviors, and the good news is, it almost always works!!  Of course, her mom has to stand firm on this too.....sometimes I get the impression she doesn't like to be the "bad guy".  But I hope this time she will stand tough on the issue.  Some day her daugher will be glad that she did!!

I am doing ok with this, but you're right the ex doesn't like to be the bad guy. She also has 2 other little ones so her patience runs thin and then she just gives so that the girl will shut up. i am hoping that she is just tired off the crap enough to stick to the plan. I had a major attitude growing up so I know all the tricks. It did amaze me how me & my husband were on the same page. We did not rehearse what we were going to say but I would think of saying something and then he would say it and vice versa.

And the X is probably is looking at it like if she gives in and get's her a driver's license, she can now help carting around the other 2 little ones to their things.... it's a win, win situation for the mother.

no because the girl is too young to drive without an adult so the responsiblity would still be on her. So as far as the license is concerned she is with us. The talk was more than that. It's was about how she just always expects and never gives in return. Primarily the disrespect for all family. And all she did last night was prove us right.

Sorry to say this Woo, but that's also pretty typical of a teenager.....they expect to be given things, freedom, etc. without having to contribute anything.  Teenage attitude is one of the hardest things to deal with.....and I think girls are much more likely to give plenty of it than boys are.  I have moments when I have to remove myself from the situation by just saying "I refuse to talk to you right now until you lose the attitude."   From what I've learned, attitude only increases the more you try to talk about something when all parties are upset.  And disrespect of the family is all about attitude.

I do know that, but we just simply cannot allow her to continue to act that way without putting up a fight. It's her choice as to how she wants to approach it. For the most part we did our best to have a civilized talk. Trying to keep our cool. There were times when my hubby got a bit loud but that is usually when the girl was raising her voice to us. We are enforcing chores at both homes. They will no longer be an option for money. They are to be done and she will be paid. How much she is paid depends on her quality and attitude. She got mad the other day when she got paid a quarter for doing dishes. I do have to give the ex a clap for that one!
Thank you all for your comments and support. It does help! smile

Happy Monday peeps! Not a bad day in Beertown so far, but there's much to do! I had a wonderful weekend to make me feel like the week is going to get a proper start. smile  I watched the Kentucky Derby on Saturday and lost my bets of course - good thing I only bet $6 among friends! laughing.gif

hmm

what she ^ said... about our Ruby...

And DS, I did the exact same thing last Sunday, spent all afternoon helping my daughter move from one Providence Apartment, to another one, where she actually likes her roomates.
She felt that the last roomates were mean to Rex...can you believe it?? I could have ripped their heads off.

Now at least she lives with 2 of her best girl friends, and they all have pets too smile.gif

I have to give you all credit though.  By taking the step to get the attitude undor control will make her a better adult.
