I spend at least 150 a week and the cashiers always act shocked- oh you are spending so much. I have five people to feed, four of us three meals a day plus snacks! I hate the grocery store!

it wasn't that expensive when Bill CLinton was in office. I think gas was $1.25 a gallon too.

I agree, it is out of control. We're spending about $140/week for the three of us.

They claim it is the increased fuel costs, but I don't buy it. When you divide the increased fuel cost over the number of items on the truck, the numbers just don't support the increased in prices over the last few months.

I think they are using the fuel prices as an excuse to do a little price gouging.

These prices have nothing to do with Bill Clinton OR George Bush!

First of all, as much as I hate gas prices it is STILL cheaper than it was in 1982 when adjusted for inflation!

There's no reason gas should stay at $1 for eternity while every other product you use goes up in price!

My mother talks about how her and my dads first apartment in 1967 cost them $90 a month! Is it the presidents fault I can't get an apartment for that price?

How about we drop gas prices back to $1.29 and we put your salary back ten years too? You ok with that? Then we'll keep your salary there forever.

You hate George Bush so you blame everything that goes wrong on him and ignore the realities of a VERY faulty Clinton administration. We'll leave his pathetic morals out of this ("Hey kids, if you work really hard you can grow up to be president and get blow jobs under your desk, then lie under oath to a grand jury about it") and just talk about his policies.

The guy sold us out to the Chinese, had almost NO will to direct the military (news flash, Bin Laden was CREATED under Clintons watch. He SHOULD have been stopped then too, but instead Clinton ignored him and inadvertanly LET 9/11 happen), Enron was BUILT under Clinton and crashed under Bush. The "great" economy you enjoyed during the Clinton years was a FRICKIN' BUBBLE that EVERYONE involved in economics seems to be able to aknowledge but not a single Democrat can admit too.

The country, UNDER CLINTONS ADMINISTRATION, got too hyped about the internet and dumped billions into it. Stocks went crazy. People were getting rich. Suddenly people realized they weren't making money on their websites OR on internet advertising, and the bubble burst just in time for Bush to take office. Economy goes in the dump becasue of it.

MEANWHILE, through all this crap of the war and the hatred Bush is dealing with the Dow Jones just keeps rising and rising (this time NOT on a specific bubble). Peoples 401k's are thriving again as record highs are recorded week after week.

But who cares right? WE HATE BUSH! Anything good that happened the last 7 years MUST be the result of Bill Clinton.

Even as the prices of food and groceries get higher and higher, none of us are seeing raises with our jobs either. There is no balance.

If I got a cost of living raise every now and then that would be okay, but I'm making the same amount of money as I was when the price of gas was under $2 and groceries were about 30% cheaper each week.

Eating healthy is way more expensive. BUt I guess in the long run what you spend on food, you save on medical bills down the road.

They said that dairy is increasing this summer- and everything gets affected: $5 a gallon for milk, and then everything from ice cream to yogurt goes up too.

My grandma cooked everything in lard.  She ate fried everything.  Real eggs, bacon, sausage were the normal breakfast.

REAL BUTTER on everything.  She's still kickin at 85. 

Maybe we overdo it with the healthy foods

Actually it's not the couch that's gonna do me in, it's gonna be this damn computer chair.

The big vehicle/gas thing is sticky.

Lets say you already have a big SUV.  The trade in value right now is pathetic because they are hard to sell with the gas price this high. So, to trade in your SUV for a more fuel efficient car, you are going to take a big hit on the trade in, plus the expense of the new car.

So what are you going to do?

Are you going to come up with thousands of dollars to buy that new fuel efficient car, or start a new monthly payment for an auto loan . . . or are you going to just spend the extra $50 it takes to fill up that bigger tank today?

Most people I know are just spending the extra $50 now, complaining about it, and hoping that the price will come back down before it is time to fill up again. I have my doubts that the kind of gas we are using now will ever get back down to even $2.50 again.

I heard the other day that even with the prices the way they are now, gas usage is still up 3% (I don't remember the time frame that was compared to). In a market with little competition, as long as there are people willing to pay the price, the price will stay.
