Can you swim??

It was funny to move here, so close to the beach and so many people can't swim. We always had a pool in our backyard growing up, so I always knew how to swim, dive, etc...

My son learned at daycare when he was about 4. Emily can do the doggie paddle pretty good. Three days left of lessons, but she is the only one swimming so far!

Go E go!

How about you?

This is going to sound odd, but I THINK I can swim.  It's been so long I just honestly don't remember weirdface.gif

I know I can't dive.  But I beleive I was actually an ok swimmer in high school.  Have never been in the water since then though.

I can't swim. We were too far out in the country to come to town for swimming lessons and the ponds and stuff around home were not the kind of thing you would what to swim in. So, I just never learned. I've made it this long, I guess I'll go to my grave not being able to swim.

I've never seen an ocean. The closest I've been to one is Alabama and Vegas.

I'm pretty lucky, very close to the beaches, Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard..... but all in all, I don't swim in the ocean that much.  I'm more like stay on the shore type of girl....

Yes, I can swim, and i must have been a fish in a previous life with as much as I love it and yearn for it. smile

When I was very little my dad took me out to a big raft in a lake on his back. Once on the raft, he picked me up, threw me in the water, and jumped in after me. He stayed close and kept saying, "swim, Heather, paddle your hands and kick your feet, you can do it." In sheer terror I paddled toward him and he kept moving back - after awhile I realized I was swimming. Not a great way to learn, but it was hard to keep me out of the water after that. He taught me everything I knew, even helped me qualify for swim team, and it is ironic because he learned how to swim from his family dogs!

I took swimming lessons when I was a kid, I could swim to save my life but am not a strong swimmer.

One of my swimming lessons turned into an anatomy lesson for my whole class. We were expected to jump off of the high dive and the life guard would catch us so to speak....well on my way down I tried to catch her instead, I remember having something smack me in the face and then I surfaced with a bikini top in my hands. omg.gif

Wow, that's an amazing way to challenge yourself! If I may ask, what makes you nervous about being in the water?

Is it the not wanting to put yur face in the water or just the coordination of movement? Just curious...I always found it fascinating why people had reactions to water or swimming. I used to teach classmates how to swim in high school.

I love to swim! I always have. I never got to go to camp or be in little league or anything like that when I was a kid, but I did get swim lessons. But I stopped right before I would've started on the YMCA swim team. I can't remember why now, though.

I also love to snorkel. I can't scuba though, I have a problem with breathing the air out of the tank.

Yep, I swim all the time when we're at our cottage, but I found out a couple of years ago that I can't swim too long without getting really tired now....so now whenever we got out in the boat, I wear a life jacket all the time just in case.
