I can't wait for this to come out!!!  I beat the first game on every level of game play, but on GH 2 I'm stuck in Expert mode on level 7.....I can't make it through any of the songs in that level....way too fast for me.

I recently read in Game Informer magazine that Guitar Hero 3 will be released for both the PS2 and PS3 systems.  The lineup so far includes:

In addition, bands confirmed to be contributing to the game include:

Concerning other bands, Huang also stated in an interview, "We've got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have. In particular, we've been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin. So hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish and everybody's wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game."

I'd like to know too.  I've heard so much about this but have no idea how you play.

Are you actually learning to play guitar by playing the game?

Here's a link to how the game is played, and no JR, it won't teach you to play guitar.

And here's a demonstration of "Freebird" the last song on GH 2:

And this is what the controller looks like:

The games are a blast to play!!!!  There are even competitions being held in bars, clubs, etc. for people to go head to head with other players, some have prize money involved.

These games sold with hardly any advertising........it was mostly word of mouth or people seeing other people playing them.  My kids introduced me to these after they played at friends' homes.  biggrin

They really do an amazing job making the video games fun and interesting these days.

I'm STILL playing the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories I bought two months ago and have been stuck for awhile. Even using some of the cheats I can't get past certain levels.

I guess that's a sign of my age. I'm actually thinking of taking the PSP to the next family get-together and asking one of the young kids in the family to get me through to the next level biggrin.gif

Yep, I love how far the games have come!  I was never that big of a gamer until we bought the PS2......I got hooked on the Ratchet and Clank games and from there just kept expanding into other types of games.  I now play so many of them that it's become a favorite pasttime of mine.

My daughter picked up Dance Dance Revolution Supernova.......you use a floor dance pad as the controller and have to follow along with the arrows scrolling on the screen........I'm definitely too old for this game!!!  It tires the crap out of me!!  hmm

One nice thing about them is that they're really not mindless fun. They force you to really think things through and create a strategy (some of them anyway).

I don't think you could necessarily yell at your kid for "wasting" his time on video games anymore because they can really be somewhat of a teaching tool as long as they're played in moderation as opposed to in 12 hour blocks smile.gif

The dancing one must be an excellent way to get a workout in, and still have fun. I would look way too goofy trying this!

Yeah Darlene, you have to hit the right colored button on the neck of the guitar and also strum it at the same time.  On lower levels it's really easy, but once you hit the hard and expert levels it gets really difficult to do.  There are also two and three note chords--pressing two or three colors at the same time while strumming.  The combinations can be difficult because your hand has to slide down the neck of the guitar to reach the orange button--the last "chord" on the neck of the guitar--especially if it's a blue & orange combination.

Um JR, I've logged 12 hour blocks or more at one time trying to reach the next level in some games.  I hate to quit a game in the middle of a level, especially if there's no save point and it took a long time to work my way through to wherever I'm at.

lol, I know what you mean Ghost.

When I first bought the PSP I would play for an hour before bed. So I'd start at about 10 and play til 11. But there were a couple times where I couldn't pass a level so I'd keep playing, or I'd pass a level but want to see what the next one was like. On two occassions I played until sun up hmm.gif

I'm not so bad anymore. Although, I must say this. One of my favorite things to do is just ignore going for the levels in Grand Theft Autos and instead have fund driving around smashing things up, blowing stuff up, hitting pedestrians and stuff.

I could see how an unstable person could be badly affected by these games. Because there have been times when I've been out driving and I'll see a cop car and my instinct is to ram into it biggrin.gif I mean SERIOUSLY, my first thought is "A cop, HIT HIM!" no.gif

If you didn't have a good connection to reality I can see how the game could put you over the edge.

Hahaha, that's funny JR and all too true......I've thought the same thing when I've been playing some racing games......people, buildings, other cars--they're all worth points!!  Hahaha!

Which is why they came out with the rating system on the games, but I've seen a lot of young kids playing games they really shouldn't be playing.  When it has an "M" rating, it's there for a reason on most games, yet a lot of people ignore it when buying games for their kids.

JR, I totally agree about GTA. The first time my friend brought it over to play, he put the cheats on and just let me loose. I had had a bad day at work, and I totally used the game to work off that frustration, and giggled the entire time. I think I scared my friend a bit.

Sorry Darlene, I can't send you the system, guitars, and game cuz we're taking them with us to the hall next weekend for my daughter's graduation party, but you can come over to my house any time and play!!  Oh yeah, while you're here, you could also get your workout in by playing Dance Dance Revolution too!  smile

Yeah, it takes a while to get used to playing video games if you don't play 'em much.  When I first started playing any of the games, I always "died" early and would give up playing because I'd run out of patience with them.

Have you ever tried using the regular gaming controller instead of the guitar?  Some people like using that......fits the hands better, no cramping in the wrists or hands, just have to remember what colors match up with the controller buttons.

Here's a tip for anyone that owns a PS2 and would like to try out guitar hero without shelling out too much money.......purchase both the game and a guitar controller and you're looking at roughly $80....buy just the game and use the PS2 controller and it only costs you $40.   Game play is still the same....just not using the guitar.  You could also rent the game first to see if it's something you really would play.
