Pageants for little girl.....

My opinion: I think exploiting your children like this is horrible.  I see nothing cute, or award worthy of doing this to your daughters.......

hell no! how pathetic!! way to just mess with their little minds at such a young age! its the parents projecting their own dreams and the pressures of that onto their little girls, who will learn a lesson that if you are the most beautiful, you are the best. and that, in the end, is what matters. what the hell is that crap!?furious

It's not so much that I object to little girls wanting to participate in some of the activities associated with a jr miss beauty pageant. I do, however, object to what messages and experiences pageants give these children. Many girls like to dress up, be in the spotlight, and show off what they believe are their talents. That's earnest fun. A little healthy competition isn't all bad either.

I do think it sends the wrong messages in some circumstances. Physical beauty is not the reason to reward a girl - they need to be taught what beauty really is, and that it exists beyond the conventional physical image and is even more so in the spirit. Competition ceases to be healthy when winning is made such a priority that they no longer get to simply have fun. Girls should be rewarded for their effort and enjoyment should be encouraged, no matter how they "rate" against other girls. Most of all, while dressing up can be fun, I don't think it is healthy for young girls to be dressed so adult, and in some instances, so provocatively. The costumes can be so ridiculous! I think at such a young age, stick with fairy princess and skip the Britney Spears get-ups so they can learn to love their bodies without thinking beauty is limited to sexuality.

Little Miss Sunshine was a great movie in this respect...the messages abaout beauty pageants for girls were wonderful and really makes the point without outright saying it.

I have an issue when they are so young that its not their choice. If they want to do it...then let them...but their lives are so fragile...it takes a special child. hmm.gif

I'm tired of the "but this is what she wants to do"  line from the parents.  90%of the parents are fat, ugly trailer trash folks that are living out their wishes thru their poor children!

And won't you turn into Anna Nicole if you grow up....she sure looks like she would have been a contestant in her younger days! (or should I say alive days???)evileye

I'd have to echo what GGal and Ally said. If she wanted to do it, I'd let her. If she won, I'd put the money into a fund for college. But I wouldn't force my child into a pageant.

When I was a teenager, I got an invitation to be in the Miss Teen Indiana pageant. But my parents couldn't afford it, so I didn't even give it a second thought. If I had kids, I would like to give them the chance to experience it, just once, and only if they wanted to.

She is creepy Mz, her hair is a bit just too much, and that dress is just plain ugly. I hate pageant hair, makeup and dresses!!

Her face looks like Farvel from that cartoon.....can't think of the name of it. It's a chipmunk and the song is "Somewhere out there"..... confused.gif

They're all creepy.

I hate it when parents do this to their kids.  That Benet-Ramsey kid was the scariest of them all.

Actually, the original movie was "An American Tale."  I saw it in the theater.  Very cute movie.

Definitely creepy.  This is the kind of face where honestly - I don't know that she will be a pretty adult.  Boy, that'd be a blow to her probably already fragile ego!

No.  I don't think that'll necessarily be a pretty teenager.

I would love to enter E is something like this- her personality is amazing- such a ham. She never stops talking, smiling, singing and dancing.

But it is not about any of that and so I will keep her hidden!
