I will keep this short and sweet people. 1408 has now moved to the top of my favorite Stephen King movies.
Every character in this movie was believable and the storyline made you actually care if someone lives or dies. Samuel L. Jackson was his always cool self and John Cusack pulled off a brilliant performance.
This movie went beyond the typical blood and guts and horror movie. It gave you a plot and kept you on the edge of your seat. It was scary, funny, sad and witty. I highly recommend you go see it!
PROS: I enjoyed watching the movie. It was very scary without just trying to shock you. Very, "Oh no, what's happening NOW!" In that respect, it reminded me of Misery. And I felt what John Cusack's character was going through, if he looked hot, I was hot, etc. There was also some cool imagery.
CONS: It wasn't deep enough for me. They never explained the "why?"s. And the ones they did explain I really expected to see much earlier in the movie to build a little background. At least once they revealed some of the background to the story and I thought, oh, that's why that happened earlier. But at the end of the movie, I was asking a lot of, "Why did this ghost do that?" The answer is probably just, "Because it's a ghost and this is a haunted room," but I like horror movies to have more than that.
SO I'd say it's worth seeing once, in a format where you'll get really into it. For most people I'd recommend the big screen just because then you feel like you're really into it, but for people who have a big screen in their living room (JR) that would probably work.
Yeah, since I missed the opening weekend, I'm leaning toward waiting for the DVD because like you said I have the big screen. I can pull up the recliner nice n' close. Watch it LATE at night when all is quiet, and get myself good and scared!
Plus, I just know this is one I'd want to own anyway. I like most of Cusacks stuff, I'm sure this will be no different.
