C'mon everybody let's do the "Clinton's dirty pardon & comutted sentence" strut

Marc Rich, a fugitive, was pardoned of tax evasion, after clemency pleas from Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, among many other international luminaries.

Denise Rich, Marc's former wife, was a close friend of the Clintons and had made substantial donations to both Clinton's library and Hillary's Senate campaign. Clinton agreed to a pardon that required Marc Rich to pay a $100,000,000 fine before he could return to the United States.

According to Paul Volcker's independent investigation of Iraqi Oil-for-Food kickback schemes, Marc Rich was a middleman for several suspect Iraqi oil deals involving over 4 million barrels of oil.

Melvin J. Reynolds, a Democratic Congressman from Illinois, who was convicted of bank fraud, 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justice, and solicitation of child pornography had his sentence commuted on the bank fraud charged and was allowed to serve the final months under the auspices of a half way house. He had served his entire sentence on child sex abuse charges before the commutation of the later convictions.

Almon Glenn Braswell was pardoned of his mail fraud and perjury convictions, even while a federal investigation was underway regarding additional money laundering and tax evasion charges.

Braswell and Carlos Viguela each paid approximately $200,000 to Hillary Clinton's brother, Hugh Rodham, to represent their respective cases for clemency. Hugh Rodham returned the payments after they were disclosed to the public.

Braswell would later invoke the fifth amendment at a Senate Committee hearing in 2001, when questioned about allegations of his having systematically defrauded senior citizens of millions of dollars.

Wow,

You know, as I search the web for these (and there's NO shortage of them to cut and paste), I'm struck by how most of them have nothing to do with saving a life long friends a**, or for that matter even that of a long time confidant.

No, most of slick willy's pardons and commuting of sentences seem to merely be bought and paid for.

My hero, Bill Clinton.  hmm.gif

Funny how that stuff isn't brought up when converstation turns to George Bush commuting a friend & colleagues sentence! evileye.gif

Hey, you're right!  Monica was actually something of a patriot!  biggrin.gif

I kind of think this is what July 4'th is all about though.

Our right to debate and discuss our political leadership, without executions being part of the equation smile.gif

I respect JD's right to his opinions, and I know he respects mine.  But I can't just sit back and let him start a Scooter Libby parade without getting equal time for an opposing viewpoint.  biggrin.gif

When I was turning 18 and of voting age, I asked my parents if I was a Democrat or a Republican. They told me I was a Democrat because they are Democrats and Democrats "are more for the small farmers and the working class people".

So, I registered as a Democrat.

The whole two party system seems stupid to me. I don't understand why it can't just be the best person for the job, but no one asked me. Because of that feeling, I've never really paid much attention to the party when voting. I always vote according to who I agree with the most.

When Bill Clinton looked into each one of our homes and lied to us (probably many more times than we know), I truly became embarrassed to have "Democrat" on my voter registration. If his lies had somehow made sense to protect national security or something of that nature, I could have accepted it. But it wasn't like that. He was just trying to hide his lack of integrity with lack of integrity.

I know no one is perfect. I'm not beating the drum for the Republicans either, but I do not understand how any "party" can not be outraged at such a lack of integrity by a man in the position of president . . . and then, to go on and support Hilary in her run for president is absurd to me.

Because of my embarrassment to be associated with such "leaders" THAT is why I am now registered as a Republican.

C'mon everybody let's do the "Clinton's dirty pardon & comutted sentence" strut

Web, I agree with you to a point. I refuse to put down any party, and I've never voted in the primaries. I may vote this year though, since there is a specific person I do NOT want to see in office. What's pitiful is that last year I "threw away" a vote by voting for a third party candidate. It was a really hard decision for me, because I really didn't want to see the republican candidate get in because of the way he ran his campaign, but I really thought the 3rd party candidate would be the best man for the job.

But, I can't take the actions of one person, even if it is the president, to make me choose one party or another. I've lost more respect for Bush than I did for Clinton, but that doesn't make what either one has done right.

keep the faith that one day 3rd party canditates will be viable contenders!

both these turkeys have been an absolute disgrace to the office of President in their own ways. I can't ******* believe it.

(you know my thoughts on the lesser of 2 evils tho.)

1) Mr. Libby was NOT the one who outed the agent. Nor was it Bush, nor was it Cheney!!! It was Libby's RECOLLECTION of a conversation with Tim Russert that caused the perjury. I couldn't swear to any conversation I had yesterday, much less a year prior!
2) Bush dropped ONLY the Jail TIme because of its excessiveness. Did Clinton get 30 months for HIS perjury and obstruction of justice!!
3) The Court System is now a JOKE. I include JUDGES in my opinion!!
4) Regarding the war. I'll admit, our soldiers are in a hornet's nest. What do you do though? The Muslim fanatics are sending everything they've got over in Iraq trying to bring us down. Would you rather our soldiers be fighting them over there or over here!!
5) And in regards to the election. Give it a rest!! You Lost!! So go ahead, take your ball and go home. Bring it back in '08.
6) GO FRED THOMPSON!!!
7) Down with the ACLU!!
8) There. I think I got everything off my chest. Tomorrow, can we all be friends again...

hmm never mind the nation we invaded for a moment, how about the criminals running on the street at home here!?!

(not like the tyrants of the Bush administration care about following the law,  etc....wink

RE: C'mon everybody let's do the "Clinton's dirty pardon & comutted sentence" strut

I can't see myself ever having a strained friendship with anyone over "politics". It could possibly happen over a debate about abortion, same sex marriage, etc, but to me, those are values issues, and have nothing to do political parties.

I can't say that Clinton's sexcapades are what made me change which party is listed on my voter card. That was part of it, though. I do find myself agreeing with the Republicans more than the Democrats on issues, but I still hate that I have to chose one or the other and still be able to have a viable primary vote.

When asked what party I beong to, I used to say "Well, I don't know what I am, but I'm registered as a Democrat." Now when I'm asked, I can say "Republican" and I don't have that nervous feeling inside that I need to "water it down" or make excuses, for my choice. Also, when we're having chicken, I've found that I only like the right wings, so I used that as a sign too (no, not really, that was just a joke.)

I don't think either party or any president has all the answers, but:

My name is WebGuy and I'm a Republican.

Our court system IS pretty screwed up. I am not saying it is so bad to throw it out but the technicalities people can get away with! My husband's cousin only got 2nd degree murder for killing his grandma. He came with the gun! How is that not premeditated?! If he just grabbed something from the kitchen then I could see but I digress....
the judge knew how the "SYSTEM" worked so he had to carefully chose the sentence. He said that he felt that John should never be let out into society again. He could not give out LIFE because he knew that there was a great possibility that he could get out earlier for good behavior or overcrowding. I forget what the exact sentence was but to me that is really sad!

I'm with you on this Web.

Like I said, JD & I can hammer at each other for hours on end and then shake hands and have a couple beers.  Politics are interesting to me, but they don't decide my friendships for me.

The ONE exception to this is abortion.  That's why you'll never hear me talk about it on the forum unless absolutely drug into it.  Because if I know I disagree with you on that issue I can't respect you, and then it does affect the freindship, so better to just not know since statistics show I'd lose half my friends if I knew where they stood.
