Shampoo

What type of shampoo do you use?

I'm currently using L'Oreal Professionel Volume Extreme.  Although I have a lot of hair, it's pretty fine, so a lot of shampoos make it limp.  It's also kind of wavy, so it looks terrible when it has no volume.  I love the L'Oreal Professionel, but it's pricey at $20 for the little bottle, so I'm looking for something cheaper that works just as well.  Any suggestions?

I buy the cheapo White Rain stuff. A nice big bottle for .99 when it's on sale.

I try a lot of different shampoos too. I love the Dove line. My hair tends to "get used to" a certain brand and then it doesn't work as well.

I switch often because my hair seems to get a build up from it. I have fine, lifeless hair but it appears thick because I have a lot of it. I am currently using Herbal Essences Body Envy shampoo. I am just using a knock off of Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner that I use occasionally. And about once a week I use Redken Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo to clarify my hair due to my well water.

I always like trying new stuff!

I've heard it's best to switch back & forth because your hair does get "used to" a certain shampoo.  I do urge you not to support Dove, and to really think about what you're doing when you purchase Unilever's products.

i keep my hair short because it is very thick and wavy.  i don't have time for high maintenance hiar.  i use garnier fructis shampoo + conditioner for normal hair as well as the sleek & shine anti-humidity smoothing milk and the fiber gum putty to style.  once a week i add a drop of tea tree oil to my shampoo or a capfull to my bathwater to cut the buildup of styling products...

Aussie is a subsidiary of Procter & Gamble.  Also evil.

I never thought of it when I was younger either, FF.  But now that I know - I feel guilty for all those years of ignorance.  I just cannot support this kind of torture.  Force-feeding poisons to rabbits because they do not have the ability to throw up, and will die more "efficiently."  And my favorite - the draize test - putting their heads in stockades so they cannot move and clamping their pretty eyes open and putting the product straight on their eye until it burns out, and they either die from the infection, or are just killed after days of quiet suffering.  So much of this goes on, and it's so unnecessary.

This is a great site for you to check on products before you buy:
http://www.navs.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ain_pt_whois

It's quick & easy to enter the product in and get their stance on animal testing.
Thanks for listening to my soapbox moment!

The bunnies thank you too!

Ha ha!  My Grandmother swore by that!  Seriously!  She also used mayonaise.  And she had really soft hair.  Long, too - even when she was "too old" for long hair.  (My favorite sterotype no.gif)

I use whatever AC buys, three months ago she bought a big ol jug of something that works pretty good. She even bought something one time they use on horses! I think it was called Mane and Tail shampoo? I had a hankering for oats every morning for a month.

I've used their stuff - I like it.  And they do NOT test on animals.  So - go for it, horsey!  (er - kittie...)

It was soft but yes rinse well! I didn't feel that is was worth the effort because my hair can take a lot of abuse. My hair stylist has to remember to not use any conditioner if she plans on styling it otherwise it does nothing because it is soft and fine naturally. She always jokes that she needs to damage it to get it to do anything! lol

We use Paul Mitchell shampoo. I can't tell much difference in my own hair but my wife swears by it. She gets it from her niece at cost, so that helps. smile.gif

I'm not really "losing" my hair, but it gets thinner and more fine every year. Limp has never been a problem for me.

So glad to hear it.  They are cruelty-free smile.gif  And they make a great product.  And it's even available in stores now, which wasn't the case many years ago!

Well... both are yucky!  So you were close!  Yes, I have heard about placenta being used in hair products...

What shampoo do you use LS?

Does anyone use Herbal Essences? I've heard they're really good for being cheap. But at the same time, I know there are some cheapo brands my hairdresser has told me not to use, but I can't remember them!

When we lived in Lincoln, the place where I got my hair cut, the first thing they would always say is "What kind of shampoo are you using?" I would answer with some cheap brand. Their reply was always "Well, you got some buildup on your hair, you should try this really expensive brand."

After a few times of that, I began answering the question with "Why do you ask, is my hair in bad shape?" Then their response was always "Oh, no, not bad, I'm just curious."

That's the stuff we have been using for three months! It seems to work pretty good, I have short hair and it gets dry with some shampoos. AC didn't complain either.

Herbal Essences are also Procter & Gamble - no good.  I am cheap when it comes to beauty products and hair care.  There is Costco's own brand.  It's a great bargain, I like how it works, it smells good, and it's cruelty-free.  So I've been using that lately.

If I were rich, I'd probably use a lot of Nexxus.  Although they have no signed agreement that they won't test on animals, they aren't doing it, so they're OK for the time being, anyway.  I've always loved Nexxus.  I had a friend who could get me their products through a hairdresser friend (Because they weren't available in stores back then either.)  And every year for my birthday and/or Christmas, he'd get me one of those bigass tubs of Nexxus hairstuff with the pump.  smile.gif

I use Garnier Fructis Fortifying shampoo and conditioner most days, but I switch it out with Davines LOVE or MOMO products.
