Finding a new doctor

Any tips on finding a new doctor?  I used to see a nurse practitioner that I absolutely loved, but she's moved to California.  I can go to the doctor she worked for (that I've never even met) or I can find another doctor.  I don't have insurance, so I don't really have any limits on where I have to go.

I'm not sure what I want to do at this point.  She was the only doctor I've ever had that I really liked, and I'm so mad that she left.

just a normal dr or one for "girl" things?

If its just a normal doc, I would just find a place thats close to home, if the other ask a friend that has recently had a child...they KNOW their OB/GYN very well. In large offices they usually have NP/midwives that are assistants in the practices...they are better to see than the Dr. (Cheaper and can spend more time with you)

Actually, I started seeing her as a "girl" doctor, but in the end, she was for both.  I definately agree about the NP thing, like I said, she was the only doctor I've ever liked!
