I remember thinking Wham! were the coolest duo in music. And I loved Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.
Now when I hear that song I always think I was really stupid when I was a kid!
I think every generation has that though. Does anyone listen to New Kids on the Block anymore? I was too old to get in on that craze, but all my neices and nephews were insane over them and they were everywhere on the radio.
I don't think I've heard one of their songs played on any radio station in about 10 years. Even when my local station does a 90's flashback, New Kids is like tucked away in the storage room, never to be heard from again.

I must say though that the list of artists that I eventually went on to NOT like is a good deal shorter than the ones that I went on to LIKE.
For example, growing up I didn't like most of Prince's music, expecially When Doves Cry, but as I got older I really enjoyed most of his stuff including that song.
Another one is U2, I always hated them, and thought With Or Without You was a horrible song, but now it's one of my favorites and the group is as well.
I'll have to think this one over and come back with some other artists, I'm sure there's a few out there I'd like to skewer on the boards
For me it was the Waterboy's "Fisherman's Blues". I know not too many people will remember them, maybe the hardcore Underground 80's fans might. (The band "World Party" was a spin off of the Waterboys that had a bit of commercial success.) But in 1988 I thought this was the most brilliant album I had heard in quite some time. Bono loved them, they were huge in Ireland, and I could not listen to this album enough.
I finally found the cd of Fisherman's Blues about a year ago and couldn't wait to throw it on. What a let down. I couldn't believe that I had once loved this music. They sound like a bunch of bellowing nut cases. Maybe I self identified with that in the 80's.....

A Band I've liked, given a second chance, is Green Day. I couldn't stand Dookie when it first came out, and every song on their album sounded alike.
then I heard Time of you Life, not knowing it was Green Day, & fell in love with the song. When I finally found out who sang it, I tried out their other stuff again. Now I really like them, as well as other punk-type bands such as New Found Glory, Sum 41, and others.
As for those I can't believe I ever liked, Britney is the only one I really regret ever giving my hard earned dollar to ( though I did get the first album free from a friend, and the 2nd one I bought at a used cd shop...haven't touched her stuff since).
I used to listen to Michael Jackson alot, and though I don't really like the man so much right now, and his new stuff is terrible, I still love the older stuff(Bad, Thriller, Off The Wall, even Jackson 5 Stuff)
I own every studio produced Weird Al Song, and laugh at the old stuff as much as the new
I hate admitting I like boy-band stuff. Even though all of those songs follow a formula and are solely prouduced for the love of money, not for the love of music, tight accapella Harmonies and a catchy chorus will get me every time...so that is more "embarrased to admit" rather than "what was I thinking"
I agree on the boy bands. It's not popular to say you can stand to listen to them, but the truth is if you love music you can pretty much find something good in almost every genre. I mean, love em' or hate em' bands like the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync DID lay down a few monster hits that wound up becoming staples of adult contemporary (not bad for a so called "boy band").
I think the best think those bands do though is bring new fans into music. I know my younger sister basically gained interest in music not so much from listening to the stuff I was playing around the house but rather from bands like New Kids On The Block that were kind of geared toward her.
When I was a kid it was Tiffany & Debbie Gibson.
The thing that SCARES me is when I compare Tiffany & Debbie Gibson to the most recent gruesome twosome of teeny-boppers Britney & Christina Aguilara. That's a pretty early lesson in "Sex Sells" for young boys and girls to be learning.
I hate to think what the next teeny-bopper wave will bring us? 14 year old prostitute-turned-singers that sing about their most devious encounters perhaps?
I have no regrets on music. Then again, I never was a NKOTB fan. I still love Nelson as much as I ever did. Sad, but true. Now guys I've dated, there's a whole 'nother story. There I have a lot of WHAT THE HECK WAS I THINKING? moments.

The PSYCHEDELIC FURS are coming to Shank Hall in Milwaukee!! They are out on tour once again! This is one band that I have loved for 21 yrs. Check your local small venues to see if they are coming to your town! I caught them a few years back as the opener on a 3-bill act for the B-52s and The Go-Gos. The other acts were good, but the FURS were STUNNING!!! Started off all "lets have fun remembering...." and ended with jaw-dropping intensity. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

I totally forgot about the Nelsons! And now that I think about it, my husband kinda looks like them... Maybe I didn't forget about them after all!
All my friends were into NKOTB to the point where I still know all their names and the fact that Marky Mark is Donnie Wahlberg's brother, but I can proudly say that I never owned one of their albums.
