RE: Best....Concert....Ever!!

Riggs, Journey was without Perry last Summer, The new guy Steve Augeri looked so out of place and he kept going back stage about 3/4 of the way through a song. The Roadies came out before the band did and did 4 songs, They were awesome!

Probably my all-time favorite concert was the very first one I went to - Hall & Oates on the Big Bam Boom tour in 1984.  They were at the height of their popularity and their band rivaled the E-Street band for talent and chemistry imo.(At that time they had Mickey Curry on drums who later worked with Bryan Adams, G.E. Smith on lead guitar who went on to be bandleader on SNL, T-Bone Wolk on bass who is still with them, and Charlie DeChant on the sax who also is still with them).

Here is my top 10 list of concerts I have attended:

  • 1) Hall & Oates as mentioned above.
  • 2) Springsteen on the Tunnel of Love Tour
  • 3) Chicago on the Chicago 17 tour (their last with Cetera)
  • 4) The Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour
  • 5) Huey Lewis & The News on the Small World tour(they had no opening act, had the Tower of Power horns backing them and played for almost 3 hours.
  • 6)  Heart on the Bad Animals tour(had 3rd row seats - Nancy Wilson looked very good from there!)
  • 7)  Steve Winwood on the Roll With It Tour(saw him here in Nashville where he lives part of the year and where his wife grew up - he seemed especially jazzed to be playing in his adopted hometown)
  • 8)Loverboy with The Hooters when both bands were at their most popular in the mid 80s.
  • 9)Don Henley on the Inside Job tour(thankfully he kept his mouth shut when it came to his political views!)
  • 10)Amy Grant on the Heart in Motion tour in the early 90s.

Wow,

You pretty much just typed out my dream ticket tour!

I saw Huey right after the release of BACK TO THE FUTURE, and he had the tower of power with him then too.  That was an excellent show.  I saw him again in '01, for his most recent album PLAN B.  He was still good.

Other than that though I've really only gone to see a few other artists, mostly Meatloaf (4x), Tim McGraw (3x), Faith Hill (1x).

I WOULD LOVE to have seen Heart, The Hooters, Hall & Oates and Chicago back in the 80's.

I have had the opportunity to enjoy many concerts.  The best one was Frank Sinatra.  He stayed at the hotel I was working at, and I was in awe of the Chairman.

Don't Laugh but also loved Manhattan Transfer,Bette Midler, Cher, and believe it or not, Backstreet Boys.  I took my kids to that one and found out they were not so bad.

One of the most disappointing was Neil Diamond and Sting.  Annie Lennox was great.

I think the best concert I attended was one that was FREE !!!!  It was a a tribute to Bill Grahm after he died in a plane crash. It was held at Golden Gate park in San Francisco. Over  150,000 People showed up. I can't remember everyone who played. But here is a list of who I do remember.

Greatful Dead..

Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young..... was first time in like 15 years or more that Neil Young performed with them.

Creedance Clearwater Revival..

Bob Dylan..

Jefferson Airplane/Starship..

Huey Lewis and the News..

George Carlin..

Wavey Gravy..

Bill Walton... Former BasketBall great and big time Dead Head.

Over 8 hours of good music, drinkin' and other un-mentionable activites. Maybe that's why I can't seem to remember all the bands that played that day? At one point a huge B-52 Bomber flew over and dropped thousands of flowers onto the crowd. Not only was this the best concert I have ever seen but it ranks up in the top 5 of the best times of my life.

Most of the concerts that I went to in high school were free.  I loved it.  I won tickets to a lot of concerts on the radio.  I was always winning stuff and they didn't have the limits now where you can only win so many times in 30 days.  I took advantage of that.  I won tickets to Poison/David Lee Roth (Poison rocked, but Dave got really mad when half the audience left after Poison performed), Huey Lewis and the News, Cinderella (didn't get to go to that one because my dad decided seeing my grandparents was more important that weekend.  I was SOOO mad at the time.), there were a few others, but most of the concerts I went to were with tickets I won off the radio.  On a more recent note - before I switched over to freezeframe, I won tickets to see The Wiggles!  My daughter was in heaven and my 10 year old begged me to NOT make him go.  It was fun.  I love the Wiggles.  Does that make me sad, or what?

Man,

One day I hope Freeze Frame Radio can be a pro-station and have bigger giveaways than buttons!

I mean I can get ahold of a bunch of 2 drink miniumum voucher tickets for shows at The Rave/ Eagles Ballroom here in Milwaukee for some good shows, but that wouldn't be fair to our out of town listeners, unless they were willing to drive in. And anyone already in town can get the vouchers because they are laid out everywhere!

My son is already a freezeframe addict.  He loves that he can request Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and it is played almost instantly.  He thinks that is so cool.  (I do, too!)  He's always asking me if we can turn on the computer and listen.  The only problem is that my husband sleeps during the day, so we have to kinda keep it down and you can't listen to freezeframe without blaring it!  It just wouldn't be the same.  I'm gonna have to hook him up on some headphones this weekend.  He'll love it.

Still checking out all the threads....this one is a good one.

Our kids are only 11-month old twins, but we play 80's music for them all the time and they love it!  Their new favorite song is Jump by VH, and they also like Rock Me Amadeus and Funkytown!

Best concert I ever attended was any of the 10 times I've seen Rockapella, if anyone knows who they are.  On the more mainstream side, I saw CSN in a nice little ampitheater in Pittsburgh in '90 and it was spectacular!  I had an amusing time seeing the Grateful Dead in Three Rivers Stadium in '88 I think it was.  Elton John was good in Philly in '92 or so, and, don't laugh, Christopher Cross in a little club in Tallahassee, FL in '94 or '95 was great!  Saw the Indigo girls in the same place for a great show as well.

Most recent concert I saw was REO Speedwagon at my undergrad alma mater at Millersville, PA.  They played the annual homecoming concert in the gym.  Oh how the mighty have fallen!  They were great though!  I think only two of the guys are original members, including lead singer Kevin Cronin, but as long as he is there, it's still REO!

Our son is a Wiggles Fan too.

A few years ago, my brother took my niece to a live Sesame Street concert. They were right down on the front row. She got so excited she puked.

Go to their web site at www.hln.org.  The tour dates link is at the top of the page.  Looks like they have a few upcoming shows, but not much.

-from the HLN website-Dublin Coffman High School (City of Dublin 4th of July Celebration)

Wow Playing the big venues now I see...damn do people not care anymore about them that much, or are they just between discs taking time off?

The above concert is the closest one to me, & I don't think I could watch them in a HS auditorium. It's almost like a pity concert....

I gotta' believe they know someone there or are doing it as a favor or something....  I went to see them in Atlantic City a couple years ago, and they sell those shows out quick, so at least SOMEBODY still cares about them!

A few of years ago at Summerfest there was this REO tribute band from Chicago that came up and played during the day. The stage area they played was absolutely packed. Then a couple of years ago the real REO was there, and it was only 1/2 as crowded as when the tribute band played!

There's a local band that I love to see that is a cover band.  They're called the Blue Brothers Other Brothers.  They are awesome.  Lots of good music to dance to.  After a few beers, I'm the best dancer in the world, so we compliment each other.

Hey J.D., you're comment about REO Speedwagon reminds me of one of the funniest lines I've seen in a sitcom in years.

It was on STILL STANDING, the main characters sister is dating this struggling lead singer from a band, he's got this fake accent he uses to sound like he's foreign, and he looks a bit like Steve Perry, but he was meeting the main characters for the first time, and they ask him...

"So, you're in a Foghat coverband huh?  Does that pay well?"

he replies "Not so much anymore, the competition is fierce and we're constantly being undercut in price for gigs"

Bill (that's the other main character) says "Oh? Other Foghat coverbands?"  Sounding kind of shocked that it would be that popular

The rock guy says "No, Foghat!"

I guess you had to see it play out, but I thought it was hilarious.  In part because it's probably very true for a few artists!

OK, everyone can laugh if they want, but best concert attended was Cher.  I took my wife and kids to Vegas last weekend and I was lucky enough to have tickets only a couple of rows back from the stage.  It was a very different experience to be right next to the stage.  She even pointed at my girls as they were dancing on their chairs.  Made my day if for no other reason than I can look forward to discussing this with my daughters 25 years from now how Cher waved and pointed at them.

I trust she didn't wear that dental floss outfit she wore in that video she shot on the navy ship back in the 80s! (is that when it was?)

She did and others similar.  She looked absolutely beautiful.  I did though have to show my daughter that it was an entire leotard type outfit and it was not just the floss, either way, she was georgeous.  When she sang Bang Bang my daughter asked it it was only paint on her skin.

Much earlier in this thread I recommended seeing Karl Denson, even if you are not a jazz fan. (He's Lenny Kravitz's old saxophone player). Well, he was in Milwaukee again last night AND IT WAS PHENOMENAL. What a party!!! It's a bit jazz, a bit rock, a bit funk- great fusion! I was having a bad monday at work, and I knew going to see Karl Denson would get the bad vibes out of me AND IT DID!!!!!!!

Do yourself a treat! If you see he's coming to your town GO SEE KARL DENSON'S TINY UNIVERSE!!!

Oh yea- THE KILLERS were pretty good! If you're a big fan, you probably would have really dug it. They played SO LOUD tho- my hair actually was moving from the sound like I was standing in wind!

ARGH!  Join this thread late in the game and you have A LOT of reading to do!The best concert I saw was actually in two parts.  Right after the split, I got to see Roger Waters on his Radio KAOS tour, and a few months later I saw Pink Floyd.  I was very cool to see them each do their version of all the Floyd classics.  I gave me an idea of how good they must have been together!

I also got to see Randy Travis perform at our church not too long ago.  First time I've really enjoyed country music.

I still go back to Cher.  I saw her concert (she said her last) at the Hollywood Bowl last Saturday.  She took my breath away as always. My wife laughs at me becasue I told her I would leave her for Cher in a heartbeat. Her finale was something else.  How she got fireworks approved inside the Hollywood Bowl is something only Cher could do.

Wow CP, I'm envious.  I can only imagine a concert in the Hollywood Bowl.  My daughter was in the color guard when her high school band played in the Hollywood Christmas Parade two years ago.  All the bands in the parade performed a battle of the bands in the Hollywood Bowl. It was in the afternoon.  I would have liked to seen what the Bowl is like at night. That place is fantastic.  I set all over the bowl just to take it all in.  I really enjoyed the seats at the very top.  The views were great not like the cornfields of Indiana.  I told her she performed on the same stage as the Beatles.  It wasn't a big deal to her.  Maybe in a few more years she'll realize how special it was.
