Knock Kelly Clarkson off the Playlist?

I vote YES!  Her music is way out of its league alongside the classic veteran artists that this station spotlights.  Her new song "Breakaway" sucks big-time in my opinion.

For that matter, I vote for deleting from the playlist anyone who ever appeared on American Awful, I mean idol.

I'm sorry, I gotta vote against that one...While I'm not a huge fan of Breakaway, I LOVE "A Moment Like This". I also am a huge fan of Clay Aikin's "Invisible." Haven't heard much from Ruben Or Fantasia, but to tell the truth I didn't watch most of season 2 & none of 3.

So My vote...keep the Idols On!!!

Ouch, that hurts!

I have to say I really like the new Kelly Clarkson song (which is probably why it's in heavy rotation ), but soon we will drop it down to a medium rotation of only twice every 24 hours, and shortly after that to an even lower rotation.

There's a real backlash against the Idol folks, but I think in reality some of their stuff is pretty good.  I think nothing ever compares to what we first fell in love with (they say you'll always compare everyone you meet against the first girl you fell for), but if that Clarkson song had been released in 1984 I think it would be respected as any other 80's song.

None the less, I must admit, I get more negative feedback on that one than I get positive.

It's hard though, this station was started as an all-80's station, and I'll tell you, after a year of playing the same 2,000 hits you start yearning for some new pop music to put in the mix

So, what's everyone else's opinion?  Let's hear it?  Love her or hate her?

The song is being played too much, I heard it four times yesterday (on Freeze-Frame), that's more than I want to hear one song in a day.

But overall I like the song, I think she's a legitimate singer, not like a lot of the crappy new artists out there.

I'm sorry about the overplaying of that song.  It's a problem I'm trying to fix with the new software we've installed.

Both KELLY CLARKSONS BREAKAWAY and DURAN DURANS SUNRISE were designated power hits in the software, but for some reason BREAKAWAY was played every four hours and SUNRISE was not played at all other than when we would manually put it in the cue.

This software ensures things like the same artist won't be played twice in X amount of time, and that the same song won't be played in X amount of time.  It's also supposed to regulate the frequency by letting us set a rotation of LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, or POWER, but so far it's not working very well.

We'll get it figured out though!  And when we do the station will have a much better and balanced sound.

Not to mention the fully automated request line, which will REALLY be cool.

pull the plug.  the songs been on the radio for months now and its getting stale.  you should still keep it on the playlist but i wouldn't consider it a top single anymore

I like this station because I want to hear your 2000 old songs. If I wanted to hear Kelly, I would turn on my local radio station!

Well, when Freeze-Frame Radio just started out about a year and a half ago we were strictly an 80's station.

That's not the case anymore.  I'd now say we're really a Top 40 station, that leans toward the 80's.  But there's been a lot of good music from the 90s and today that we're committed to playing as well.  Music, more than almost anything else, is very subjective.  Even the biggest hit single in the country will probably be disliked by a large segment of the public, and a song you think is absolutely crap is sure to be someones favorite song.

The bottom line is what makes internet radio nice is the fact that you have so many choices and that the broadcasters can play what they have a passion for.

On Freeze-Frame we really have no bounderies, the only thing I would say we TRY to do is keep some level of consistancy in the sound (ie: no heavy metal in the middle of a bunch of pop music, no pop music in the middle of the jazz hours, etc).

But the day we have to start limiting ourselves to a predetermined list of old songs is the day we pull the plug and call it a day.

well I must admit that the 2nd hour of jazz 101 can sometimes jump genres and get interesting. We'll sometimes bust out The Mothers of Invention, MC5, Neil Young, just to shake things up a bit and dig deep into the relics within our archives! I know RIGGS loves it when I play the 10 minute long AFRICAN LEAF CARRYING SONG!!

jazz 101. hour one is for the newbies, hour 2 is an acquired taste!

LOL, another listener has spoken and they don't like Kelly

Man, I think I'm truly in the minority on this one

First, WELCOME to the boards!  Thanks for listening & for your post.

Second, we DID drop Kelly from HIGH rotation to LOW rotation and REQUEST, so she's only getting played about once per day now.

Someone just requested Kimberly Locke though, so the American Idol kids are still being represented

I thought it would be fun to bump this one!

It's a thread from TWO years ago Saturday.

We were talking about the "new" broadcast software we just installed and the soon to come all request line.

A trip down memory lane

No, you're not. If I remember correctly it was Tennessee Dan? He LOVED the station originally, but left us when we started expanding the playlist beyond the 80's. I emailed him once to ask where he'd gone and he said he just didn't enjoy the mix anymore

The mix is what got me hooked!   I think most of us have a very similar tatse in music, so even if I don't request it, someone else will!  I've had several people walk into my office and ask what I was listening to because they hadn't heard that particular song in "years"

Keep it up!

I always say SGM that we don't have as many listeners as we could have, but the ones we do have tuned in are TRUE music lovers.

Those are the listeners I'd prefer to have anyway!

I loved Kelly Clarkson and "Breakaway"  It came out right when I left my old job and took a chance with this broker wanting to go out on his own.  It became my anthem.

Now I'm loving Carrie Underwood's Cheating song.  That's my anthem today.

Funny thing, I saw one of the old cheese heads from American Idol the other day.  The one that looked like Gino from the Bronx and always gave that sultry stare into the camera (BARF!)  Anyway, he was on VHI for a short spot and telling about all of the American Idol finalists that have jobs on Broadway right now.  I was quite impressed.

I've never seen "American Idol", but I was at a Broadway after-party (to meet Donny Osmond!) & this guy with long hair was talking to me. His name was Constantine (weird name), and he was getting ready to star in another Broadway show. I was told that he was on "American Idol." Was he one of the guys the show was talking about?

I guess I'll have to hear him sing some time. I had no idea who he was, just liked his look. Long hair, leather pants (Not the kinda thing you usually see at a Broadway thing, but very nice!) I saw someone in the audience asking for his autograph, then later at the party he talked to me for a bit. But I really didn't know who he was. OK, color me curious now.

All I can remember is that it seemed like he did a great Queen song.  Bohemian Rhapsody possibly.  He was one of the few rockers they've had.  I think you would have approved and been angry when he got sent home.

Never been a Kelly Clarkson fan, myself.  I don't watch American Idol. Can't stand the hype.  I have XM Satellite radio in my truck and it seems like whenever one station plays one of her songs, they all want to play her songs at the same time... how do I know? I start station flipping!
