Your parent's house

Here's one for you.  Do your parent's still keep your room available to you??  Or the house you grew up in, does it still have your old bedroom in it?

Kaisha offered her room to my BF's brother who was going through a divorce, when she found roomates, and now she wants to come back home to live, and he's in her room.  I feel bad.  cry.gif

My sister now has my old room, and her room is now the computer room.

When I moved out Erica took over my room.  The folks then proceeded to knock out a wall and make the room about 30% bigger for her.

For 18 years I lived in a room that most people would have used as a walk-in closet hmm.gif

my folks have a guest room that I am able to stay in when I go to visit, but the house I grew up in was sold back in the early 90s.

When I was moving out of that house, I was the last one to get my stuff out and leave. The new owner was already in there dinkin around with the gas pipes, forget what he wanted to do.

Sure enough the house caught fire a few weeks later due to gas problems. I am sure my bedroom, which was in the basement, was destroyed.

Being the oldest of three, I was the first one to move out.  A month later my mom converted my room into her sewing/reading room.  When my two brothers left, each of their rooms became guest bedrooms.  Now it's just my dad at the house (my mom died 7 yrs ago) and a four bedroom home is really way too big for him.  I'm trying to convince him to sell the house and move into something smaller, but he keeps saying he's not ready yet.

My husband's mom is the same way. Their house is a 4 bedroom house, and it was for a family of 6. Him and his little brother had to share a room until his sister moved out. Now "his" room (the one he had by himself) is a sitting room. But now it's just his mom in this huge one bedroom house, but she's not ready to move either. And she's been having a few problems, it would be really good for her to move into an apartment community, but she won't do it.

my aunt and uncle have had the same house since 1977. I still like going back there to visit them on holidays- although its been remodeled a lot, its still the same house and reminds me and my cousins of when we were kids- especially the basement.

My parents sold their farm in KY when they found out I was expecting my first one so they could move down here and be my childcare. They were both school teachers and had just retired. They had 35 acres. My dad had built the house, fenced the property, cleared it so it was half fields, and half wooded. He had dug two ponds and stocked them with bluegill and catfish. I had a playhouse and dad had hung a swing in one of the huge oak trees in the back yard. It truly was a beautiful farm and I was always so proud to invite people over.

As much as I love having my parents next door to me and helping me as much as they do, I that my two can never experience the farm like I did. Driving by and showing them the house and propery just isn't the same.

I remember when Mike and I visited Wisconsin a few years ago, we drove through Brookfield and stopped by his old house. The people were there and actually let him go inside and see his old room and the rest of the house. That was sort of neat. He hadn't lived there since '84.
