What Smells.....

trigger a memory for you?

I walked into our breakroom and it smelled like my childhood lunch box. A cross between an old bannana and bologna sandwich. smile

the scent of my aunts and uncle's basement- smells the same as it did when we were kids- like part must, part laundry detergent...

When my husband's grandma was killed we got some stuff from there including the spare bed. It took a long time for it to not smell like her house. Just always made it a little hard. Due to the circumstances surrounding her death we ended up spraying the bed a lot with Febreze. It's the girl's bed and we didn't want her to have trouble sleeping in it. But if you really try you can still smell that distinct smell.

The smell of a Turkey cooking always reminds me of my Grandmothers house for the holidays. She lived on the second floor of a duplex but you would get that first whiff as soon as you opened the first floor door at the bottom of the stairs.

Oh, and when you get that wormy smell in the air after a rain, I always think of vacations on Rice Lake from my childhood.

The smell of lilacs at twilight reminds me of childhood summers. Just after the sun sets, they have a warm fragrance to them that is unmatched. I used to pick big bunches of them and decorate my hair with them. I'd put them under my pillow at bedtime so I could keep smelling them. Something about lilacs always made me smile. aww

G-Gal, do you have any Lilac bushes near your new apartment?

I have a huge one in my backyard, and the smell is awesome in spring. I just wish they lasted longer. It seems like you get 3 or 4 weeks and then they start dying already.

I have one outside my front door. Yeah, they are short-lived, and I am always sad when the flowers die off. They are incredible! smile

Pickles remind me of hot summer nights when I was a kid.  There used to be a pickle factory a few miles from our house, and on hot summer nights the scent of pickles being processed filled the air.  It was always a pleasant smell too.  The factory hasn't been used for years now, but sometimes when I'm at my dad's house I can still catch a faint wiff if the wind is blowing just right.  smile

everytime I smell the cops cleaning their weapons with gun cleaner, it reminds me of my dad, before I went out w/ a boy. He'd start cleaning his guns at the table when they walked in to pick me up.... smile.gif

I am his only daughter, and it got kind of comical actually. He had the cleanest guns in New England...... He never shot them, but cleaned them...LOL

No wonder I ended up marrying the first guy who paid attention to me, most of them took off after the first date.. sprint.gif And after 14 years the guy I married eventually did too. cry.gif

Where's my dad's gun cleaning now, huh??? LOL

Yeah, he let his guard down for awhile! You might have to have him come over to meet any new guys you start seeing!

Honeysuckle reminds me of my family's farm in KY. There was a huge crop of it by the creek I used to wade.

Big city bus exhaust reminds me of my trip to NYC when I was in high school. Coming from a small town, I think that was my first time to be around that smell.

Fresh homemade bread ALWAYS takes me back to the tour of the Bunny Bread factory when I was a Brownie in elementary school.

The smell of a saw mill reminds me of my great-grandmothers house.
