Due To A Drinking Problem

It seems that Ruby isn't the only one having problems at home today.  My husband just walked out the door about half an hour ago after drinking himself into oblivion again.  Since this is the third time he's walked out during the last six months, I told him this time it's for real, not to bother coming back.

So it looks like tomorrow I'll be looking for a lawyer.  I'm all done playing games with him, and I'm tired of living with an alcoholic!!

Geez!

What the heck is going on!  A friend of mine who has an alcoholic and drug abusing husband told me he got "phsyical" with her a little while ago and she's threatening to leave him too.  She's been saying that for 15 years though.

I hope everything works out for you Sandy.  This is really starting to get depressing! hmm

Thanks JR!  We've been having the same go-round for quite a while with the problem being his drinking.  He won't seek help because he doesn't think he has a problem with alcohol.  When someone knocks back 10-12 beers a night, every night, yeah that's a problem!  I'm really tired of dealing with it.  I can't do it anymore.

Oh that's awful. It's hard when you are dealing with someone who doesn't have the desire or self-awareness to see and face their problem. I'm sorry to hear you are going through such a tough time Sandy. I will chant for your perseverence and happiness - NMRK!

Ugh... been there done that Sandy.  This is why my BF and I don't live together.  He drinks way too much.  I own a house with him, and if it weren't for that, I think his drinking would have separated us a long time ago.  Right now he lives w/ his parents due to this.   And many other things as well.

I wish nothing but luck, in trying to stay strong this time.

Good luck Ghost! (And you too Ruby!) Hopefully this will be the catalyst for him to get the help he needs. My best friend when I was growing up had a drunk for a dad (and we suspected some other drugs as well), and he was a single dad, and I saw all the trouble she went through. And in the end, it definitely effected the person she became. You're really doing the best thing for everyone involved.

maybe I should change my signature avatar...?!?!... I'm not making light of this subject, because I am a victim of alcoholism myself. I have my signature avatar, because I am a bartender!

Thanks so much guys!  Your support and thoughts mean a lot.  I've been seriously considering a divorce for some time now and the way things transpired last night only reinforces that a divorce really is the best thing I can do for myself.

I'll be ok; life will be better than it has been and that's my point of focus.  smile

Terrible news.  Substance abuse is a tough thing, and you guys are right - if he doesn't think or isn't ready to admit he has a problem, there's nothing else you can really do, unfortunately.  cry

Hey Ghostdancer.

Sounds like we've been living a similar life the last 15 years. In my ex's paperwork, his reason for wanting the divorce was due to our arguing. I would say 90% of our arguments however were rooted to his drinking. He averaged 6-10 a night too. I can count on one hand the number of nights he didn't dring during our fifteen years together.

I'll send you an IM with my personal information if you'd ever like to talk. I know you and I are not as close as some of the other forum members, but I want to be there for you in any way I can.
