My husband came home last night (which I kind of suspected he would) and I laid down the law to him. I told him he has a choice to make.....either he stops drinking entirely, gets himself checked into a rehab facility, and starts attending AA meetings or he'll be receiving divorce papers next week. I've already spoke with an attorney and the papers are drawn up....he's waiting to hear from me if they get served or not.
I called a couple of rehab clinics and set him up with an appointment to check in to one on Monday. I told him if he fails to keep this appointment, then I know what choice he has made. He gave me gruff about missing work. I told him he's sitting on over 700 hours of PTO (paid time off) hours; he can use these hours to cover the time he'll miss from work. He said he could quit drinking on his own; I told him we've been that route, hasn't worked, he needs help, whether he gets help or not is entirely his choice, but if he chooses not to get help he will lose everything he's worked for during the past 20 years that we've been married....his family, along with his home, his cottage, boat, camper, anything of value will be sold, and the money split equally as per a divorce decree.
I told him he can stay here at the house until Monday, but the girls and I will not be here when he comes home from work; we'll be spending the nights at my dad's. If he fails to keep the appointment on Monday, this arrangement will continue until a divorce is final.
The ball is now firmly in his court. He has to choose which path he's going to take.
Sandy, you are amazing! I'm so happy to see you stick to it and keep your eye on what you know is best for you and your family. I will chant for you and your family to get the best outcomes from this...that you and the kids are happy and that your husband chooses the help he needs. NMRK!
