Ruby's Rollercoaster 2

So the boy spent the night out. He wanted to go to an away football game, but the ride details were vague and I told him that when I was a sophmore we went out drinking after the games, so unless there was a parent present- it was not gonna happen. So he calls and says he is just spending the night down the street. The boy's mother calls to confirm this. Anyway I go to sleep at 9 ish and then the hubby wakes me to tell me that the boy is back with a half empty bottle of vodka. It was my son's money and her son's connection. They were both drunk.

OBVIOUSLY I am upset. He is in counseling and military school ($20000) is in his sights. But the fear was pot and failing school. I am confused and not sure if this is the final straw. I experimented at that age too, but that does not make it right. Even the mean hubby thinks this might not be it. I tried to call his counselor, but he is out of town.

The two of them are gonna kill me... that is all I have to say.

I do know one thing- he will be cutting our grass shortly- it will be almost 100 today. I can at least inflict the hangover misery on him.furious

Ooooh, Sorry Ruby. I don't have advice on this one. Can't go wrong with the mowing punishment. Other than that, I'd probably wait for the counselor. Other forum members will probably have good advice too.

I agree with TG. Definitely wake him up early and put him to work. And mention it to his counselor. But you're right, that it is just a teenager thing to do. Make his hangover as miserable as possible so hopefully he'll learn not to do it again.

He's been outside for the last hour and it is only 9 am. But it is already over 90! He keeps coming for water. I am going to make him get a book at the library about binge drinking. He just does not get it. I told him if the counselor tells me to send him off....then I willhmm

I realize it's a teen thing too. My one fear is that he may be genetically dispositioned towards addiction from his biological father. I might be inclined to get a book about that too. I read somewhere that Rumor Willis (Bruce and Demi's) had been inundated from an early age by her parents that she would not be able to handle alcohol at all due to their past addictions and that she needed to totally stay away from it. I know, she's probably pulling a River Phoenix on us, but she does seem to stay clean which is surprising considering the group she runs with in Hollywood.

My fear is that his conscience will NEVER kick in. He knew it was srong and could make him be sent away and he STILL did it!

I doubt it's as much of a conscious-minded thing and more of a peer pressure thing. But think back to when you were a teenager, would your mom making you read a book on binge drinking really have changed anything? But he likes his counselor, right? I'd defer to whatever she says. Unfortunately, knowing it's wrong for many people isn't enough. He's got to learn it's wrong.
