Splinters

So last night I got a piece of mulch logged in my toe- I need pine needles back! Anyway I thought I got it all- it was a very large piece! Anyway this morning it was obvious that some is still in there. It is on the worst spot- right on the left side of my big toe. I am gonna have to wait I guess for it to work its way out, I tried the needle this am and it hurt.

Have any home remedies?

Maybe a little rubbing alcohol and salt? The alcohol would carry the salt down to the splinter and then the salt would eat away at it.

Aren't we just a helpful bunch today?

Aren't you supposed to soak your foot in warm water first to soften the skin? confused

First, wash the area with clean water and soap. Then numb the skin with an ice pack.

If the sliver is completely covered with skin, sterilize a sewing needle with rubbing alcohol. Then gently work the splinter loose with the needle until enough of the sliver is exposed to remove it with tweezers. Pull the splinter out at the angle in which it went into the skin.

If the splinter is not easily removed, try soaking it in warm, soapy water for 15 to 30 minutes, three times a day, for a couple of days

Many splinters come out without too much attention. However, call the doctor if:

the splinter is deeply embedded or very large.

the splinter remains embedded beyond several days.

there are signs of infection, such as severe redness, swelling, tenderness or yellow pus.

Marshmallow root or slippery elm made into a poultice is supposed to help draw the splinter out. Do you have a natural remedies or herbal place in your area? If so, if they have either one as a powder, get some of that, mix a little in water to make a paste, then put it over the splinter. Let it sit enough to absorb some into the skin, then try getting the splinter out. If they don't have powder, just add a little water and mash it up really well.

But, if you don't have an herbal place nearby, this could be more trouble than it's worth.
