GRAND BLANC TWP. -- The Flint City Derby Girls, a roller derby league for the Greater Flint Area, is on the lookout for ambitious and energetic skating fans.

The league will accept women 18 or older for player positions. No skills, skates or gear are required during the 30-day introduction period. Players practice twice a week at Rollhaven Skating Center, 5315 S. Saginaw.

A $20 registration fee is due at the first practice. After an introduction period, new members must pay a $45 monthly league fee.

Men and women may apply for referee, statistician and volunteer positions. Referees must be 18 or older, pay a one-time $20 registration fee and $30 monthly league fees at the end of a 30-day introduction period.

Referees will attend league practices, skate and travel with the league. Statisticians will attend practices, games and may register a derby name for a one-time $20 registration fee.

I don't think I will be trying out. I don't have the time or money. But I bet it's fun!
