We had a good time in Lincoln. The boy seemed to enjoy the day.
We started at the Children's Zoo. Its not nearly as big as the zoo in Omaha, but its still pretty good. The neat thing about this one is that its more close up and hands on. I didn't realize until I got home that I had taken 110 pictures on Saturday - sheesh.
This seal is "Tony". He was purchased and his care is provided by the bank that my wife works for:
A Goat:
An Emu:
Camel up close:
A Nebraska "Wally":
Bald Eagle:
My good friend there works in the state capital cabinet shop. He gave us a good tour:
The capital from the South side:
All the county names are carved into the sides all the way around the building. the boy thought this county was his favorite:
From the top of the capital looking over downtown Lincoln:
I was really wishing the trees were fully turned color. I would have had some good ones for the fall photo contest:
The inside of the capital is pretty cool and very detailed:
Note the bench down on the floor. We'll refer back to that later:
My buddy built these doors:
These are three benches he's making. They are to be copies of the benches in one of the pictures above:
Those were all taken at max resolution and resized.
What I do is open the full size pic in my photo editor and crop it first (if necessary). Then I resize (reduce) it to the size I want. Shrinking the pics always leaves them just a bit blurry, so for the last step, I run it through a touch up of "Unsharp Mask" and that gets rid of the bit of blur before exporting as a jpg.

Just get out there and shoot away. Not all of mine turn out good, but by taking a bunch, you're bound to get some great pics along with some "blah" ones. Keep the good ones, delete the others. My favorite one of the day was the camel. I took about 6 of him up close and just happened to get that one as he was turning his head.
Yeah- thanks for sharing- I have my pix from the zoo, but I can't get them on my computer for some dumb reason. I tried last night so that I could take some pix of my yard
Anyway- glad you all got to spend a nice peaceful weekend together
Great picts Web! Is that lady going to hit the seal?
Yes, it is a training technique where the seal either does what they ask or they get punched on the nose.
No, not really . . . I'm not sure why they do this, but quite often they have them come up and touch the handler's hands. I think they make a fist just in case the seal decides to bite, its harder to get hold of a fist than a finger. The other one touches a plastic bottle and someone asked why the bottle and not a hand with that one. She said that was because the other seal is 15 years old and can't see very well. The bottle is easier to see and because of its poor eyesight, there is a bigger risk of that seal mistaking a hand for lunch.

The camel one is my favorite too!
