With the station, off the air, I'm realizing that this forum is the only one central contact point we have for each other now.
Being the geek I am, I have to ask, what if activeboard sould pull the plug on the forum?
Yes, most of us have a few others contact info for email, phone, etc., but I don't think none of us have a way to get in contact with everyone else to discuss the situation as a whole.
Here's my idea . . .
How about we set up an backup email list. I can easily set this up, if you all will "subscribe".
The way it would work is that I would create this list on my own server so it would be something@mcculloughs.org. Then everyone would subscribe to that mailing list. Once subscribed, any member can send an email to that one address and it would automatically get forwarded on to all the others who are subscribed.
I would not mean for this to replace anything at the forum at all, but if the forum was unavailable, we could still be easily connected via email to decide what to do or where to go next.
Sound good? If you like this idea, we would just need to figure out what to use for the address . . . maybe something like friends@mcculloughs.org ??
Now, we just need everyone to subscribe to the list.
You can subscribe in two ways.
Option 1:
From the email address you want to subscribe from, send an email message to: ffriends-request@mcculloughs.org
Use the subject of: subscribe password Replace "password" with what you want to use for a list password.
You will then get a message back from the list asking you to confirm the subscription.
Option 2:
PM me your email address and I can manually subscribe you.
Once subscribed, you can send a message to everyone on the list by using ffriends@mcculloughs.org
You have to send from the email address you are subscribed with or it will not go through.
Also, my own preference is that this list not become the forward of the day kind of list. We don't want to lose people from frustration of getting too much junk through the list.
Let me know if you have any questions. Once we get a few signed up, I'll send out a message to ya's all to test it out!
Sparky, you can just PM me the email address you want to use and I can add you that way.
I saw that Ruby's subscription email got tagged as spam and it didn't to through, but I manually added it. That makes me hope that didn't happen to anyone else that tried but didn't get added. Here's who have signed up so far, if you attempted to sign up but your name is not below, let me know:
Very, cool . . . we're getting a good turn out so far. I hope we never really "need" this because that would mean the forum troubles, but you never know what the Active Board guys might decide to do.
