As an owner you get access to all those pages. So owners can see the dedications and requests coming.

Thank you Woo!

I wanted to have a "Now Playing" page for the average listner, but so far I can't figure out a way to do it without having the request links attached as well. I'm not real good with the PHP programming unfortunately.

I'm giving it another couple hours of work, trying to develop an HTML page that would show what played, the next three artists coming up and if it was a request or not. But if I can't get it figured out in the next day or so I'll forget about it.

I would think that showing the next songs wouldnt be a good idea with the RIAA crap....then we are pretty much making it open to try to copy the songs if they know whats coming. As owners we are all entitled to the info but for the average joe...just something to think about.

Right, we can't legally show the upcoming song titles, all we're allowed to show is the artist that's coming up.

That's what the public now playing page used to show, and I think that's LS was looking for.

And you're right, their concern is that people would be able to rip the stream to make copies of the music they want. I'm not even supposed to say the song coming up on the air unless I keep it vague.

The page I'm hoping to create would accomplish what we need, but I'm not real confident I'll get it done, and I don't want to spend too much time on it. I'll do my best though.

Sure have...but if you go to the direct forum link, not thru FFR.comn, then it works just fine!

I just responded with a semi-answer to this question in the thread SG started about NFFR.

I think the overwhelming opinion of the listeners, and more importantly the owners, is that they generally don't like country music in the mix, so I've tried to keep it pretty mainstream. Of course I did leave some absolute classics like TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT, etc.

Perhaps this will be a good question to put to all the owners when we do our first quarterly email.

I also think I never had Mr. Bojangles did I? Personally if someone wants to forward that song to me I'd add it to the request list. I consider that one of those "absolute classics".

Know what I love about the new site? That it shows 100 songs per page on the Request Page. smile.gif

Yeah. I had actually increased that JUST before we went off air a few weeks ago.

I like it more that way too. Less flippin' pages and more requestin' smile.gif

Not necessarily complaining, just curious how it's set up:

Looking at the request system, it seems like there's a lot of computer inserted songs in there (not counting the 2fers). I'm assuming anything without a time requested was picked by the computer. For example, right now it looks like we've got a request, the 2fer, another request and 2fer, then 3 songs picked by the computer. 2 more request/2fer combos, then another song picked by the computer, another request/2fer, and then another song picked by the computer.

So when does the computer pick songs? I know you've got new singles and then some classic songs in the mix, how often are they played? What else is thrown in there? Like I said, just curious.

To be honest I'm not even 100% sure how I set it all up anymore.

But the NEW HITS come up more often during the day than in the evenings, and when they are inserted they are put at the TOP of the playlist.

The CLASSIC hits are played every so often but they are placed at the BOTTOM of the playlist, which can create a situation where if no one has requested a song for an hour or so two or three of the classics can pile up on top of each other.

I think it's far more noticable on Two-Fer Tuesday, becuase the songs break up the two-fers or create a block of non two-fer music every so often.

I toyed with the idea of turning them off on Tuesdays, but it's not that simple. There's quite a bit of code that goes into each PAL Script (the files that run this stuff) and there's no way to turn it off. It would need to be deleted, and then readded again.

The NEW HITS plays the least recently played new hit out of about 100. The CLASSIC hits is a random choice from the system's popular classics.

Does that help explain it at all?

Yes, that does help. And would make perfect sense after looking at the request list. Really, the reason I noticed was that it seemed to be taking a while for my requests to play, which I assumed would happen on Tuesday anyway, so I looked to see where my songs were. Thanks for the explanation!

Question:
Marky asked me if he were to sign up as co-owner, would we have to share requests as we did in the past, due to sharing a server. Or does it go by the logging in with user name & password?

If nothing has changed on how you guys access the internet, I'm pretty sure it would still be shared because you are still on the same IP address.
