Wow! There weren't a lot of people in here today. I have been extremely lazy today. I watched the Packer game and then went to pick up my daughter.

I am going to work on the MySpace page now. It's needs some updating and Riggs and I are going to work on getting some new friends.smile

I think it's a great idea to play some of G-gal's favorites tonight in honor of her birthday tomorrow!!  I'm hoping she'll be around to hear them.....I miss her during the week and usually only get a chance to do some chatting with her on Sunday nights.

Since this is the Sunday thread...

I meant to wake up at 6:30 this morning to go to Indy for a workshop with Grandmaster Chen. But our alarm hasn't been very reliable lately, so I set the cell phone. The cool thing is that my cell phone lets you program which days you want the alarm to go off on. The bad thing is that I didn't reset it to go off on a Sunday, so I ended up waking up at 7:40, which was the time I wanted to leave by at the very latest so I had plenty of time to get there.

So, I did a quick wash of the important areas, put on my tai chi clothes and did 80 mph to hopefully get there on time. I had my Google map, and the directions were pretty simple: take 37 to 465 and get off on Shadeland Ave, exit 40, to 71st St. At 8:45, I was on 465 and thought I might get there right on time when I saw the Shadeland Ave exit 48. I figured there was a typo in the directions and took the exit. That Shadeland Ave dead-ended at 52nd! So I was in this sub-division type neighborhood and got all turned around and didn't know which way was north since it was raining. I finally found my way and got there at 9:30, which meant I missed most of the sword form session. :(

But the rest of the workshop was great. I beat one guy at push hands, but I think I pulled something in my hip at the same time. I'm walking around like an old lady!

Thanks for your sympathy! I did have fun, and don't regret going.

I had a warm purring cat lay on it, does that count as heat?

Tai chi is a martial art. What most people do is just form, but Grandmaster Chen also teaches the applications. It's more than just meditation.

There's also something called Push Hands, which is rooted in Tai Chi, where you try to knock the other person off balance. I'm too nice, and don't do so well knocking other people off balance, but I'm very rooted and can be hard to move. I think that's how I hurt my hip, this one guy was trying really hard to move me.

There's also San Shou, although we didn't do much of that today. It's how tai chi relates to boxing. We did that at the last workshop last June, and since I've never really punched before, I learned a lot. I can't wait to do that again.

sounds a bit more disciplined that Tae Kwon Do. We had some forms we did, but basically it was just tryin to beat the hell out of eachother.smile.gif

Yeah, this is learning the form, and then learning the other stuff that ultimately teaches you how to do the form better. And there's really no beating each other up, with the exception of San Shou, you're really just trying to neutralize an attack.

I'm glad you're enjoying these classes Mz!  I've heard that it's a great way to help strengthen muscles overall, plus helps "center" yourself too in the process.

Oh yeah, I highly recommend tai chi to anyone. You don't have to go to the length that I do, you can just do the form for general health. But it gives me a kind of high afterwords. It must be all the chi going to my head.
