New Year's Resolutions

So, what is everyone's new years resolutions?

This year, I resolved to start a retirement account.  That's it, the only resolution I made.

Anyone resolve to lose weight?  Should I start up SparkPeople again?

I really haven't finished forming mine, but it has to do with work life balance and career satisfaction. I've got a job that will eat me alive if I let it, so I really want to have a clearer focus on where to draw the lines and a vision for what I want to do next. Boring, I know, but essential.

there is way too much testosterone in my home -- hubby, 15 year old, and 5 yr old.

i'm hoping to begin the year working on and mending our family dynamics. they all need to get in touch with their femnine side, or i'll be mailing y'all airline tickets and meeting you at the airport with shovels! weirdface.gif

family dynamics and understanding the teenage boy -- i need help...

I found this online and LMAO!

Attainable New Year's Resolutions:

This year, I resolve to...

- Gain weight. At least 30 pounds.

- Stop exercising. Waste of time.

- Read less. Makes you think.

- Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.

- Procrastinate more. Starting tomorrow.

- Spend more time at work, surfing with the T1.

- Take a vacation to someplace important: like, to see the largest ball of twine.

- Not jump off a cliff just because everyone else did.

- Stop bringing lunch from home: I should eat out more.

- Get in a whole NEW rut!

- Start being superstitious.

- Personal goal: bring back disco.

- Buy an '83 Eldorado and invest in a really loud stereo system.

- Get the windows tinted. Buy some fur for the dash.

- Speak in a monotone voice and only use monosyllabicwords.

- Spend my summer vacation in Cyberspace.

- Not eat cloned meat.

- Create loose ends.

- Get more toys.

- Get further in debt.

- Not believe politicians.

- Not drive a motorized vehicle across thin ice.

- Avoid transmission of inter-species diseases.

- Avoid airplanes that spontaneously drop 1000 feet.

- Stay off the International Space Station.

- Not swim with pirhanas or sharks.

- Associate with even worse business clients.

- Spread out priorities beyond my ability to keep track of them.

- Wait around for opportunity.

- Focus on the faults of others.

- Mope about my faults.

- Never make New Year's resolutions again.

That Spark people, lose weight thing really flopped with all of us, didn't it? I still get emails from them, but don't even read them. hmm.gif

I don't really have any resolutions. I want to get back to walking again like I was but thats not really a resolution . . . I just felt better when I was walking most every day and want to get going again.

I was really into it at first, but then thought logging everything in was too much work. Which is probably the same reason I'm not exercising or eating the right stuff, etc.

Logging all the stuff does help because it keeps it in front of you . . . but its also a pain to keep up with.

When I was walking most every night, I was keeping a spreadsheet. Once a week, I would add it up.

Looking back and seeing that I had walked 23 miles and lost 1.5 lbs that week was a helpful motivator, but over time, that too got old. I got to where I would enter the data once or twice a week rather than daily and it became a chore.

Actually, exercising helped my eating more than the Spark logging or anything else. Walking four miles/day was a lot of work. I got to the point to where when I wanted a snack, I would start to think: "Lets see, I could eat those three cookies and negate that whole hour of walking, or I could have that apple which won't wipe out all the good I did with the walk.

I've found the best way to lose weight is to develop an allergy to something that's in everything. ;) That's what I used Spark People for at first, it helped me make sure I was still getting a balanced diet (particularly getting enough protein) right after I found out about the allergies. But, once I got the hang of my new diet, I wasn't all that concerned with logging everything anymore.

Now, what I really need to do is exercise more. Granted, 1 hour of tai chi 3 nights a week is pretty darn good, but it's really not enough. I've plateaued. I used to walk there, and once it gets warmer and is light out, I'll probably start walking again.

I resolve to be here more, does my mind goodsmile, to work on anger and addiction issues with my family and to stay away from refined carbs and exercise 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes. I turned 38 this year and I am best shape of my life!
