Got up, watched Lassie's Vet TV, cooked breakfast, did laundry. Now I have to study, darnit.

"In most cases, a child of divorced or separated parents is a qualifying child of at least one of the parents. However, if the child does not meet the requirements to be a qualifying child of either parent, the child may be a qualifying relative of one of the parents."

Thrilling, huh?

So, what its saying is:

"A child can be claimed as a dependent unless he/she can't be claimed."

Right?

I think I'm starting to understand this stuff.

Yep, that'd be it.

Now I'm into the fun stuff, Earned Income Credit. Gotta be careful here, because many people try to claim this one that aren't eligible for it.

I still don't understand why they can't use plain English.

"Some types of income that are not earned income include interest, pensions and annuities, Social Security and railroad retirement benefits (including disability benefits), alimony, child support, welfare benefits, workers compensation benefits, unemployment compensation, nontaxable foster care payments, and veterans benefits (including U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) rehabilitation payments). Other amounts that are not earned income include:
*Scholarship or fellowship grants not reported on a Form W-2
*Amounts received for work performed while an inmate in a penal institution including amounts for work performed while in a work release program or while in a halfway house"

Luckily, I only have to remember that long enough to take the test. Once I actually do returns, the software gives me the list.

I've done 3 1/2 modules today and scored 100% on all of them. I'm done for now. Too many tax rules in my brain.

I finally made it to the forum today, even though it's 7:54 pm here.  Just in time for JD's shows!! biggrin

Mz, I give you a lot of credit for sticking with the tax law stuff!!  When I was doing coporate taxes, it got to the point that I couldn't stand staying current on all the different laws.  That was when I realized it was time for me to leave the accounting firm I worked for.  You're right about the software helping you with it once you pass the test.....it makes it much easier when actually doing someone's taxes for them.  I wish you all the best with your tests!!!  smile

Aw man, I hope you're not getting sick!!  cry

I'm doing pretty good tonight.  Had a great weekend even though I didn't do much of anything special, ha.  Just a lot of rockin' out with the Guitar Hero games.  Man those things are addictive once you start playing them!

I agree about a sense of accomplishment once the Christmas stuff gets packed back up for another year.  I love to decorate for the holiday, but I'm also really glad when it's time to put it away too.

I noticed in my neighborhood this year a lot of people got rid of their trees the day after Christmas.  That's a little early for me, but I guess some people get tired of it more quickly than I do.

So you guys are getting all fogged in tonight huh?  We also have a dense fog warning out until 7 tomorrow morning.  I'm glad to see all the snow melting from the warm temps though!!!  smile

that is nice! its actually really nice out, just rough driving! that was scary. it'd be bad even if it were daylight, but add the darkness, and I had to take it reaaal slow. didn't see too many other cars out there, they must have announced on the news to stay in if ya could...smile.gif

I agree about the Guitar Hero! I've had it for less than a week, and little opportunity to play it, but I've already beat easy mode! I did 2 songs in medium, but man, it's hard to get used to using my pinky. I swear that I can't get my fingers to move independently of each other! I haven't got booed off the stage yet, but my average just totally dropped.

I've got a couple of electric guitars and a 12 string fender accoustic, but I rarely play them anymore- fingers get cramped up too easily now. but every once in awhile its fun to plug in one of the electrics and make noise for awhile.smile.gif

Yeah it takes a while to get used to using your pinky to hit notes, but believe me, all the practice on medium pays off!!!!  In Hard mode, you have to hit the orange button A LOT!  And in Expert, you're playing the song note for note, with tons of 3 chords to hit.

Two player mode is excellent for practicing because you can't "die" during the song.  smile

Someone gave my daughter a Bass for her graduation this summer.  She's always wanted to play one, but doesn't know how, so she's going to take some lessons during the summer.  I'm thinking about learning how to play it myself.  biggrin

Hey Hartz.
JD, I stayed in on the treadmill to avoid running in the fog. Coming back from Mayfair, I drove the parkway to see what a driver might see... convinced me to hit the mill.

Did the coffee house last night. Pretty good. Bought one of my friend's cds. Yuk. He is definitely better live. (the-coffee-house.com)
Check the opening of the new art at LuckyStar (http://www.luckystarstudio.com/) Buzz was deejayin'. I bumped in to an old boss from the Business Journal, Robin Kinney. She's far out. Hit the art museum for the second last weekend of Rameriz. Pretty cool. I drew like him when I was younger.

Well, I'm going upstairs to MY art room. Cleaning out the old MacIntosh before the upgrades, just incase.weirdface.gif

aw that's cool!
I think bass is a good place for anyone to start. Relatively easy to guitar or piano, but once you get the theory down, transfering that to another instrument, should either of you chose, well, 1/2 the battle is already won.smile.gif

This is just personal taxes, and it's just seasonal.  And the software should keep me current on the laws.  But I still have to know them, and I have to pass the test on them.  I'm not so nervous about actually doing people's taxes as I am about taking the test!

You'll do fine on the test!! smile

I still do personal taxes here at home for some of my friends, and I love the software.  So much easier to do instead of reading the books and staying current.

Hi all! What a crazy evening - I got a call about some bad PR for my temple that could affect a project I'm working on, and the real kicker is that the guy who wrote the article has been coming to some of our organization's events claiming to want to join. What a scandalous jerk! He couldn't find any "dirt" by these means, so he wrote a heavy criticism of the local university's interaction with our organization's leader. evileye
