Sports vs Business....

In JSonline:
Packers and the workplace
Posted: Jan. 17, 2008
One game away from the Super Bowl, the Packers are on the minds of fans everywhere. And we doubt this fervor takes time off during the work day.

DISTRACTION COSTS MILLIONS
How much work time
do you spend on Pack?
If each Wisconsin worker spent one hour at work rhapsodizing over the Packers, scrounging for tickets or scouting the Giants' offensive tendencies, state employers collectively would lose $39.7 million in wages.

How much time do you think you will have wasted this week talking or reading about the Packers? Go ahead and waste some time by tell us about it here. Also take our instant poll here.

Your Comments: The sense of unity and pride it brings into the morale of any Wisconsin workplace should obviously displace concerns over hypothetical monetary loss.

I saw this and thought the same thing JD.

Besides that, there's no real way to fully measure productivity loss.

Unless you're talking about people who work on a line and you can show instead of making 60 widgets and hour they only made 50.

Most people's job aren't like that. Look at what I did at Vestcom in the fiche room. Work came in and I did it, keeping up with the flow. If I spent the day sitting there in silence or if I took an hour to chat packers the machines kept running one way or another. my output was exactly the same either way.

lol I think that's just it. I am guessing that those who drop everything to insessantly talk packers probably waste more money throughout the entire year by talking about anything other than that related to their jobs....biggrin
