Speaking of Boston...

I was gonna wait until I found out more, but here is the dealio as far as I know:

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet is interviewed by Metal-Rules.com and on possibly working with Boston: "I got an email from a guy who runs a Boston fan site and he asked me if I wanted to comment on his death. I did and he posted it and Tom Scholz read it and contacted me and asked me to play a benefit show. From there it went from me singing one song to me singing three songs and playing guitar for the whole set.  Now he's asked me to record with them and tour with them.  So I am facing the fact that they are not Christians but they have been a better example of Christianity to me than even some Christians. No drugs, no drinking, polite as can be and very giving. Their music and lyrics are clean. I prayed about it and I felt like it was okay for me to do it and I did it."

Is he gonna be the new singer for Boston?  I don't know.  Can he do it?  Hell, yeah!  He is afterall, my all-time favorite vocalist.  It would be like Jeff Scott Soto singing for Journey - completely different sounding voice, but excellent voice, and it would work.  I'd probably rather Boston just call it a day, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to do that.  (And they'd had other singers over the years.  And from what I've heard, there were problems between Tom Scholz & Brad in the first place, which was part of Brad's depression.)  Michael can certainly use the money.  His wife is still battling cancer, and they're having a tough time.  I'll let you know when I hear something more.  In the meantime, enjoy this picture of the 3 Stryper guys with Dave Rose & Tom Scholz from the "Station Family Fund Relief Concert" benefit they did.

Thanks for sharing. I read a nice article about Stryper this weekend in Charisma magazine. It mentioned that he sang at the funeral.

Well, it's true kids!

Boston will be bringing two new recruits on tour this year. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Michael Sweet, the veteran Stryper frontman will both sing and trade riffs with Gary and Tom on guitar. Unexpected phenomenon Tommy DeCarlo, the fan that posted his Boston covers on his MySpace page and ended up on stage, will also be belting out the classics that skyrocketed the band to worldwide fame.

I did not.  A girl who calls herself "Yaz" did.  I first met Yaz maybe 10 years ago at a record convention.  I was probably wearing a Stryper shirt or something, because we got into a Stryper conversation, and it was cool, because she was really the first girl I'd met (besides me) who thought Michael Sweet was da bomb.  (Which he is...)  She is waaaay more hardcore than I am, though.  When Stryper tours, she and her bf (husband now?) will go to like 10 shows.  She's a nice person.  The last time I ran into her was at my ScrapMetal show (where I got the station IDs from Mark Slaughter, Nelson, & Eric Martin.  (Good night floating.gif)
