RE: This Day in Music

1997, The Spice Girls had the UK No.1 single with 'Mama / Who Do You Think You Are.'

Ok, I'll admit it, I liked this song when it came out.  There was something kind of haunting about the melody/music.

1984, Metallica made their UK live debut at the Marquee, London.

The 80's were when Metallica was great.  The recent stuff they're putting out just isn't Metallica anymore.

I can honestly say that I had forgotten all about Mel & Kim.

lol I remember really admiring the Kill Them All album in the late 80s. My friends and I were mostly preppy I guess, but we would stand around kinda in shock at just how tight & evil sounding that album was. We admired the greaseballs who turned us on to that album. smile

I believe Madonna was the first one to command ticket prices of $100.00 per seat. She played here at the Pontiac Silverdome a few years before this album was released (I think it was around '84, '85) and if you wanted to go, you had to buy tickets in a "block" of four, no more, no less....400 bucks to go see that show, and I remember hearing the concert sold out in one day!

When I was in Jr. High, best friend's sister dated their drummer, Don Brewer, for quite a few years. We hung out with the band at my friend's house whenever they were in town. It was pretty cool how easy those guys were to talk with and joke around with.
