I think it totally sucks how it costs so much more to eat natural, healthy foods than the processed, preserved stuff.

Its just not right.

Here here!!  Most of my money goes towards food.

oh I agree. the cost of veggies and fruit is just absurd! ALthough the asparagus around us is now around $1.89 a pound, and you can still get that 5 pd bag of oranges for $4. I've been doing that.

What's the going rate on a pound of pot? Maybe we should all start eating that instead?

I told her it won't take much and all she had to do was push on it a little.

Sorry, man.

I feel your pain.

Well, not literally, but I understand.

I've been doing pretty well eating healthy again the last month or so.

But I let the store decide my diet for the most part.  I go once a week and only buy sale items.

For example last week they had 10 Yoplait Yogurts for $4.00.   That's a healthy snack and about half of what it would normally cost.

Also, I've finally followed the advice of others and instead of starvation dieting have tried to eat breakfast, lunch and supper with a healthy snack between each meal.

Breakfast has usually been egg whites, either in an omlette or scrambled.

Morning snack yogurt

Lunch has been a chunky soup or maybe a lean cuisine and some veggies

afternoon snack veggies

Supper has been baked fish or chicken, something like that.

The nice thing is I've been losing weight without feeling too deprived.  I'm still going out to eat for one or two meals a week and having whatever I want.

During the week I might have frozen pizza once or twice but I actually cut the pizza into fourths before I bake it and just have 1/4'th of a 12" pizza.

In the past I'd eat a pizza for supper and easily eat half of it or more just because I didn't want to throw it out and I don't like reheated pizza.

going at this pace I haven't felt deprived and I've still lost about 3 lbs. a week.

Now I have to bump  up the exercising.  But I'm always aching so it's been hard.  Yesterday 22 minutes on the bike was brutal with this pain in my shoulder.  I think today I'm skipping the bike and just relaxing a bit.

I usually skip breakfast on weekdays, or if I do have it its just an orange or apple. very rarely eat between meals. If I do its a 50 cent bag of schneider pretzles to hold me over till dinner.

Well I wasn't asking you to taste it!! I just wanted a little rub down so it would quit throbbing and aching.

JR, maybe you should try a more low impact exercise, at least until you build your body back up so you can do something more rigorous. Go on a leisurely walk around the block or around the park or something. Don't worry about getting the heart rate up or any of that exercising stuff, just get out of the house without being in your car. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

That's what I love about tai chi. It's so relaxing, I don't realize I'm exercising. Too bad you don't live in Madison, I know an excellent tai chi teacher there.

I sooo can't wait until it gets really nice out again. I miss walking in my Glen. Somedays I'd just get home from work, and without even walking in the house, go walk for  40 minutes in the Glen. Some days it was so theraputic it didn't even feel like I worked that day.

Leave the pedometer home.  Walk just to walk.  Just enjoy yourself.  It's a lot better than trying to exercise, and you'll start a healthy habit.  If you do it to exercise, it'll last a couple months and you'll give up on it.  Once you've made it a habit and enjoy doing it, then start to track stuff and push yourself.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is don't exercise because you feel like you have to.  Find something you enjoy doing that gets you out of the house and on your feet, and maybe it'll last longer.  It's not the maximum benefit and not what you're "supposed" to do, but I imagine mild activity for a year or more is better than something that you'll give up on eventually.
