Question about self-cleaning ovens

Anyone know how these work?

I locked my door, and set the dial to AUTO SELF-CLEAN.  That was over two hours ago.  It's still on.

Do self-cleaning ovens usually turn themselves off at some point?  Or am I supposed to shut it off after a certain length of time?

I expected that after an hour or so the self-clean light would go off.

I'm cleaning it before I move because I sold my appliances to my landlady.

it looks like you might have to do it the old fashion way and clean it yourself.smile

Actually, I just realized it's counting down. It still has one hour and thirty minutes to go. Apparantly it takes FOUR HOURS to self clean!

well I knew it took at least 3 hrs and you shouldn't be able to open the door until it is safe to do so.

Oh and thanks for reminding me of another task-

We need to clean ours too but Mrs Web is afraid to use the self cleaning mode because she's afraid it will get too hot and burn the South side of town down. I was telling her of your questions and she said "Ask him if his is stinking and smoking".

So, is your oven stinking and smoking?

Flames is what she's worried about.

I've never had any flames.

Web my oven is pretty dirty. Whenever we clean it I'll try to remember to report back on it.

The flames just come if you have chunks of stuff at the bottom of your oven.

Like I had pizza crust and stuff. I didn't clean those out first, so eventually they'd start on fire.

It's been running over three hours now and there's been no flamage.

Mine takes four hours and it is HOT. I had flames last time and the hubby sat back and laughed and said do not worry. It was okay, but I was worried!
