Don't you think he'll have a lot of trouble renting the place? Or are apartments that hard to come by in that area?
I mean, if I walked into a place and saw the things you described I'd definately keep looking.
there are 2 sets of apartments right by this house. One on the same street. There are also more in the area. But if you are looking for a house to rent then his price was lower than the surrounding houses.

I've heard the same things from Brian. Of course, he's always worked for a property, so they usually do a little extra when they turn an apartment over: paint, clean or replace carpet, update some things, etc. But he's also got plenty of stories of people leaving stuff behind. There was one apartment that was just abandoned, it didn't look like they took anything with them.
Sloss Industries operates the world's largest slag wool plant. So there!
And here's the story about Vulcan.....
History of Vulcan The history of Vulcan is deeply tied to Birmingham's roots and its growth into a prominent industrial city. Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, was originally built in 1904 and has stood as a symbol of Birmingham for over 100 years. After a four-year renovation, Vulcan Park reopened to the public in 2004 and welcomed over 100,000 visitors its first year.
This is all I could find about "The Magic City" nickname....
The turn of the century brought the substantial growth that gave Birmingham the nickname "The Magic City" as the downtown area developed from a low-rise commercial and residential district into a busy grid of neoclassical mid-rise and high-rise buildings and busy streetcar lines.
Well, I hate to admit it, but in my younger days I did a midnight move. I'm not proud of it.
But I had a crappy landlord that lived in California. I rented the place air conditioned and when the air conditioner broke he wouldn't fix it until next year. It was the hottest, most humid part of summer and my 500 CD's (that's all I had at the time) were getting ruined. The inserts were getting warped and saggy from the humidity.
Then a doorknob broke and it took him two months to get his manager to fix it.
By fall I had enough and just moved out in the middle of the night on the guy.
Of course, I didn't trash the place. I took everything with me and what I didn't take I threw in the dumpster out back. But I broke the lease and let him keep my security deposit.
If you are not looking for the specific problems then you won't notice until you are living there. You will see the garage floor and will probably step into the holes under the carpet in the living room, but he will say he will get it fixed and never do it. The electrical you may not notice until later- however it is getting worse so maybe sooner. How many of you look at a roof unless you are buying? And you won't get suckered by the horrible heating bill until your first winter! And everyone expects some bugs but will have no idea how bad until they wake up with a "friend" crawling on them.

oh we put up a celing fan in the living room too that we are leaving. (we didn't ask for permission) They might have to take it down if they are tall people though. I'm 5'3 and I can touch the blades if I reach up.

Actually we ask our renters every month how everything is and they say just fine. We drive out there occasionally and he has built a flower bed and some other things outside so I know they are taking care of the place. But we do keep track to make sure everything is good.

since it doesn't sound like he'll even take the time to even give it a lick and a promise, you should leave a note taped inside one of the kitchen cabinets or bathroom medicine cabinet, listing these things... i don't know why, but the medicine cabinet is like the back of a hallmark card -- everyone looks there when they're checking out a house to rent...

I like the way you think DS! That is a good idea!

I'm sitting here feeling really numb right now. Last night I got a phone call telling me that my best friend passed away on Tuesday. Apparently he had an aneurysm hit his brain. His friends found him at his apartment Tuesday. His funeral is tomorrow but I won't be attending it because he lives thousands of miles away from me.
I feel like I've lost a member of my family. I'm very sad and grief stricken today.

I'm SO sorry Ghost.
Seems like I've heard of a lot of Anuerysms the last few years. It's such a sad thing becuase you never see them coming.
Thanks everyone. I feel really bad and wish I could be there tomorrow to say good-bye. That's the thing that's so hard right now; it happened so fast, there wasn't time to say anything. I know in my heart he's at peace. I'm going to miss him terribly. He was my rock when my world gets crazy.
Hello everyone! I am on my way out the door, but I wanted to say hi. I was about to go and finish cleaning my parents' house and mowing the lawn when my best friend called and wants me to go to Babies 'R Us with her. She found out two days ago that she is pregnant I will just have to get all of that done when I get back. I hope that everyone has a great weekend!
