Its About Time...

Brewers designate Turnbow for assignment

The Milwaukee Brewers today designated relief pitcher Derrick Turnbow for assignment.

In a corresponding move, Joe Dillon was recalled from Class AAA Nashville.

Dillon will be in uniform tonight when the Brewers play the Houston Astros.

Turnbow was an all-star closer for the Brewers in 2006 and pitched well for the most part last season in a set-up role, but has become increasingly unreliable this year. His low point came Wednesday night when Yost sent him to pitch the eighth inning with the Cubs leading, 13-5.

Turnbow was unable to get out of the inning, surrendering six runs on four hits and four walks, forcing Yost to use left-hander Mitch Stetter to get the third out in the 19-5 loss. That meltdown came on the heels of an outing Sunday against Florida in which Turnbow failed to retire any of the three hitters he faced (two walks, single).

The numbers tell the story of how awful Turnbow has been. In eight outings, he is 0-1 with a 15.63 earned run average, allowing 12 hits, 13 walks and 11 runs in 6 1/3 innings. Opponents are batting .414 against him.

Thank goodness.

I read that first thing this morning and it started my day out right smile.gif

He's making 3.2 million this year, so they knew if they sent him to the minors he'd clear wavers (no one was gonna take on that salary for such a sucky player) and if he refused to go to the minors he'd have to give up all that cash.

Let him play out the string at triple A and move on at the end of the year.

Meanwhile we called up another bench player.  THANK GOODNESS!  We were carrying 14 pitchers on a 25 man roster for most of April.  NOBODY DOES THAT!

How many times did you see us run out of pinch hitters!  Heck, a couple games we used pitchers to pinch hit.

Yost sucks almost as bad as Turnblow!  no.gif

I can't figure that out at all. If you ask me, this move came 2 yrs too late.

Yes sir.

You should be very excited Derrick Turnblow can't lose anymore games for us.

Furthermore, you should be excited the Brew Crew will have another good player to come off the bench and pinch hit for the pitcher in the late innings.

Hey Web, I've got an extra ticket to next Fridays game. You wanna go? Club Level seats, it's me and my cousin, but the third ticket could be ALL YOU!

One game at Miller Park and you'll be hooked! And wait til' you taste the secret stadium sauce on a brat!

I don't like the ease of pubic access to the secret stadium sauce. it just lays out there for anyone to dip into.

*wait, PUBLIC access. typo there. no.gif
