I would guess in many ways I am a liberal. If my political stance makes conservatives cringe and turn purple in the face, then I must be doing something right!

I think the leadership of our country is too important to vote (or not vote) for someone on a whim just to see what happens.
For me, Hillary being a woman and Barack being black have absolute not bearing on my decision.
My only opposition about a woman president is with our foreign policy. How many other country leaders will be unwilling or uncomfortable working with a woman? Not that its right, but I think its just the way it is and that should be considered. If you are running a business and are trying to land a big contract with an important client, you want to send someone who you think will fit in best with the client.
My problem with Hillary is that she is a liar. She has proven multiple times that she's not afraid to lie to us. This is not excusable to me.
My problem with Barack is the same kinds of things JR mentioned . . . talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time.
My problem with McCain is that he has a record of being a "hot head" . . . we need someone with self control who will lead sensibly not based on his temper or emotions of the moment.
Wow, this thread took me awhile to read! Lots of stuff to digest. As far as people not voting for Obama because of his ethnicity - I have to disagree. I live in one of the most prejudiced parts of Illinois and they are behind him all the way because they are Democrats and they feel he is the strongest Democratic candidate.
As for Hillary - she's already been president. She just want the title this time around. Having lived in Arkansas when Bill Clinton was governor, I know exactly how those two operate and I'm not impressed. I remember when Clinton ran and people I knew voted for him because he was young. That angers me. Don't cancel out my vote for such a ridiculous reason. Be an informed voter.
As a Catholic, I have a hard time voting for either of the Democratic candidates, but I'm not informed enough about John McCain yet to say that I'm voting for him, either. I'm still on the fence. I guess it's going to come down to the lesser of the evils. I hate being put in that position.

Although I'm fairly honest, stand by my beliefs, and and fairly even tempered, I know nothing about running a country.
JR and JD would have to be my advisers on the how to stuff.
Hey Web, actually you wouldn't be running the country because the President's only job, as defined by the Constitution, is to uphold the laws passed by the Senate and protect the Constitution. Congress and all the lobbyists actually runs the country, so you wouldn't have to worry about that.
Well I don't think you'd be able to do that, but you could put a bug in the ear of some Congressman about that idea, and then he/she could write up the bill and see where it goes from there.
One day, three boys were walking over a bridge when they heard a guy yelling for help. It was President Bush. He was drowning, and the three boys rescued him. He thanked them dearly and promised them whatever they wanted as a reward.
The first boy wanted $10,000, so Bush gave him the money. The second boy wanted a Ferrari, so Bush gave the boy a Ferrari.
The third boy wanted a wheelchair, Bush said, "Why do you want one of those, son, you're not handicapped."The boy replied, "I will be when my dad finds out whose life I saved."
