Meat Loaf on Saturday Night Live

I was watching an episode of SNL from 1978 on DVD last night and was pleasantly surprised to see Meat Loaf as the musical guest.

He even had Jim Steinman with him on piano (Good grief, Steinman looked 90 years old even thirty years ago).

He performed ALL REVED UP and TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD.  It was so cool to see him in his prime like that.

It got me to thinking, I know Lady Strange is an SNL fan too, and since they've secured the music rights for every episode, are you collecting the SNL Seasons LS?

The night before last I watched a young Eddie Money singing his hits TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE and HOLD ON.

Very cool. No, I don't collect the DVDs, but do enjoy seeing the old musical guests.

It's funny, everyone always says SNL can never be as good as it was the first five years.

But watching the first three seasons in their entirety I think the show was as hit and miss then as it is today.  In fact probably more so. 

Todays SNL has much more clever writing I think, while the old SNL was more about drugs and characters they created.

But the musical guests alone make it worth owning the sets I think.  They really started getting big names once they were a popular show.

I remember being a kid and watching that episode when I was a kid. I remember being mad that Mr Loaf killed the funny with a sad song like 2 out of 3 aint bad.furious

JD, you would have LOVED the episode I watched last week.

Ray Charles was the host AND musical guest. It was great. He played three songs, and was in several sketches.

oh I bet that was great! didn't see that one.smile
I have a dvd set of ray's performances and interviews on the dick cavett show back in the early 70s. thats fun to see.smile
