Manhattan or New England Style Clam Chowder?

Do you like clam chowder? I go in streaks where I really like it, but then don't like it again for like 5 yrs. And the only kind I will eat is New England style. I think the Manhattan style looks like the barnacles they scrape off of their piers of Manhattan.doh

I enjoy New England clam chowder. I have never tried Manhattan. It just doesn't look good.

I don't hate Manhattan, but I definitely prefer New England. (Plus saying "New England" reminds me of the band, which makes me smile.) smile.gif

I wonder if SG has an opinion, and if he would opt for Manhattan cuz he's from up near there.
I think the main difference is that manhattan uses a tomato base as its stock.

I am most pleased with the clam chowder I had today from 2 Brothers. I sometimes get grossed out when I get clam chowder where the clams seem a bit rubbery, or else gritty. doh

I have some of the best NE clam chowder ever!! There are places nearby especially near the beaches and on Cape Cod that make the BEST NE clam chowder.

Don't waste the clams by putting them in tomatoes? What is wrong w/ you???

I don't think I've ever had clam chowder.

So, I'm going to vote "Send Riggs crumbs from my toaster".

Eeewwww, no clam chowder for me!! bleh

Back before we had kids, my hubby and me were up camping for a week.  One morning I woke up and it was kind of chilly. I was thinking how great a nice, hot cup of coffee would be.  So I got out of the tent and saw my husband standing at the propane stove heating something up in a pan.  I thought he was making me breakfast.  Turns out he was cold and was heating up a can of clam chowder for his breakfast.  He asked if I wanted some.  NOPE!! Just the thought gagged me.  bleh

I LOVE NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER! I'm not a big fan of tomato based soups, so I don't really care for Manhattan clam chowder. But with this stupid corn allergy, I have such a hard time finding clam chowder at all that I can have. So I have to make it from scratch.

That sounds good. May I come over for some if I bring the crackers?

Sure, just make sure the crackers don't have corn syrup in them.  Really, check your saltines, most of them have corn syrup. no.gif

Well that isn't good. How about I bring the wine instead. Does that work better?

New England clam chowder....that is one of my top 5 favorite soups.  Progresso makes a great version.  With oyster crackers...you cant beat it.
