Milwaukee flood pictures

I'll follow in Ray's footsteps and post some of the flood pictures I found on our local paper.

I LOVE severe weather like this, I can't believe I'm missing it!  They're getting more rain today yet.

Isn't it wild? I can't remember this many rains consecutively causing such flooding problems. Some related news:

Mayor declares emergency in Oak Creek

Oak Creek Mayor Richard Bolender has declared a state of emergency as a result of Saturday's rain and flooding and a variety of main roads in the city have been closed.

The following major roads remain closed and motorists are warned that it's not safe to drive through theses areas or any road with standing water, according to Doug Seymour, a spokesman for the city's emergency operations center.

The roads are:

W. Drexel Avenue from 13th St. to 27th St.
E. Forest Hill Ave. from Shepard Ave. to Pennsylvania Ave.
E. Oakwood Rd. from Pennsylvania to John Aaron Dr.
S. 100th (W. Ryan Rd.) from Howell Ave. to 13th St.
S. Nicholson Rd. from Puetz Rd. to 100th.
S. Pennsylvania Ave. from Puertz Rd. to Oakwood Rd.
S. Shepard Ave. from S. 100th to Centennial Dr.

Milwaukee freeways mostly open

Most Milwaukee County freeways have been reopened this morning, with a couple important exceptions, the sheriff's office reported.

The Kilbourn Avenue tunnel to northbound I-43 remains closed as does the ramp from the west to the south in the Mitchell Interchange far right lane. Highway inspectors are on the scene there assessing possible water damage, according to a sheriff's office news release.

After the storms that rolled through the area Saturday beginning at 4 p.m., the department reported 49 disabled vehicles, seven property damage only accidents and four personal injury accidents, all minor, according to the release.

Milwaukee Co. disaster hotline opened

A disaster hotline (414-278-3000) has been opened for citizens in Milwaukee County to report weather-related damage. The hotline was opened by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Bureau.

11,000 without power around Milwaukee area

About 11,000 customers of WE Energies are without power in the metro Milwaukee area, Barry McNulty, manager of media relations for the energy company said Sunday.

Of those, about 8,800 customers are primarily in the north shore area and the northwest side of metro Milwaukee, he said

Rain totals: 7+ inches in some areas

The repeating storms have dropped 7.55 inches of rain at Elm Grove village hall, the highest total in the area, according to MMSD rain gauges.

Other totals:

6.53 inches on W. Lisbon Ave. in Milwaukee
6.18 inches on N. Teutonia in Milwaukee
6.13 inches on W. Florist Ave. in Milwaukee
5.44 inches in River Hills
5.37 on W. Fond du Lac Ave. in Milwaukee
4.75 inches in Menomonee Falls

Cudahy flood damage more than $2 million

Cudahy - Cudahy officials say total damages from flooding in that city are estimated at more than $2.3 million.

Mayor Ryan McCue, who said about 30 percent of the city's properties were affected by the flooding, asked Gov. Jim Doyle today to declare the city a disaster area.

Those pictures are amazing!!  I sure hope a lot of people don't have flooded homes.

Today was another stormy one for MI.  There were confirmed tornadoes in West Branch and also down around Flint.  We had some high winds blow through here with heavy rain, thunder, lightning a couple of hours ago.  More severe weather on the way for tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

We got a pretty rough second hit with the flash floods today - I happened to be out shopping at the time. I heard the warning just as I pulled up to the grocery store and it started raining in torrents - sideways! Being down off State Street in the valley, I decided to skip groceries for awhile and head home via higher ground. In the little amount of time it took for mw to decide that things got bad. Asphalt was washing down the hill, along with tree debris. The puddles were so deep that huge wings of water were coming up form the tires of every vehicle. The storm sewers I passed were spouting water about 2 feet into the air, contributing to the flooding on the roads. It actually got bad enough I had to pull over for a few minutes on high ground until there was some visibility again.

I didn't check myself, but my landlady said she checked, and no flooding in the basement. lucky. old solid building. plus we're at the top of the hill, right at the ledge of Miller Valley, so all that water is spendin more time rollin down the hill towards state street.

Thanks Sandy! Yeah, I'm pretty glad I don't live on low ground right now. I should call my parents though - their property usually gets hit hard when it rains heavy like this. My basement is a bit soggy, but mostly because my landlord is an idiot and plugged the window drains with putty. My stuff is in dry areas. Gee he is so dumb, honestly. no.gif

I wonder if that means it is headed my way.

Note to self: keep an eye on the creek should it rain heavily and continuously.

Tosa restaurants cleaning up, reopening

Wauwatosa - In the village business district, flooded basements closed Ristorante Bartolotta and neighboring Pizzeria Piccolo on Sunday, and they remained closed through today.

About 9:30 p.m. Saturday, "we got a call from a manager saying there's 3 or 4 inches, and it progressively got worse," said Joe Bartolotta, one of the partners in the Bartolotta Restaurant Group. Ultimately, 12 to 24 inches of dirty water backed up into the basements from the drains, he said.

Restaurant staff members called diners who had reservations for Sunday and Monday and shifted them when possible to other Bartolotta restaurants.

By Monday afternoon, the basements had been power-washed and bleached and passed health inspections, Bartolotta said. All food had been discarded, and food vendors had restocked the restaurants. He estimated the loss to wine alone at $15,000 to $20,000.

Ristorante Bartolotta might reopen Tuesday with a limited menu, Bartolotta said, because it will take a while to prepare sauces and other components used in the menu. The pizzeria is expected to reopen Tuesday.

"The coolest thing... all our servers came in on Sunday and our line cooks all came in, rolled up their sleeves and pitched in" in the cleanup, Bartolotta said. He estimated 30 employees came in on their day off.

Across W. State St. at the Chancery restaurant, only a little water seeped into the basement, said hospitality trainer Alex Helling, "which is really surprising, considering how much was at the back door." The restaurant backs onto the Menomonee River, and benches that were near the river were floating in water, Helling said. The restaurant lost no food and didn't have to close, she said.

Here is a good slide show of our flood here.

I'm thinking he is going to have a hard time selling his hot rod pickup at the end!

I was amazed as we were flying into Indy. It was raining (of course), so we couldn't land, so we just kept circling over the city. At first I didn't realize what it was, and then I said, "Oh my, I think that's some of the flooding." It looked like the river leached into the neighboring yards, and there was just water everywhere. And that was just yesterday, I can't imagine what it looked like over the weekend.

Our house and everything around it looks like it stayed fairly dry. Here's some pictures from IU, this is the street that runs in front of the Memorial Union.

My sister took this picture at the end of the block where my Mom lives.

In the 30+ years they've lived there they've never flooded before.  I am just in awe of this shot.

I REALLY wish I had been there for all this.
