RE: Some of the last great deals in a bad economy

I KNOW!

The reviews I've read on them have been great.  fewer bugs and animals picking at your veggies too!

That's it, I'm going tomorrow to see if I can buy the set up at Wal-Mart.

And will you be using a giftcard that you earned through My Points?

Frankly, I am surprised to see that you will be leaving the apartment. What happens if you start melting?

It's cooling down! Only 88 today. Feels like fall!

Tomorrow is 82 so I got a huge list of stuff to go out and do. I finally want to look around town a bit. I've been putting it off because of the heat.

I have to shop for a Birthday gift for my Mom. Pick up some groceries. Get some stuff for the house. Go to the post office. etc. etc.

It's funny. low 80's was a heat wave in WI. Now it's cause to run outside and rejoice smile.gif

It is only 85 here today.

90 or above for three consecutive days or more is consindered a heat wave.

But good luck with all your errands. Make sure you plan the route efficiently so you don't waste too much gas. Or make sure there is enough air in your bicycle tires and take plenty of water.

JR, if you do get one of these, let me know if they produce.  We used to put in a garden when the girls were small, but it fell by the wayside because there doesn't seem to be enough time to take care of one now.

Actually I've devised a new item for my car that I'm considering patenting.

It's a long hook on the front. When I pull up behind someone at a stop light I can clamp on to their bumper, put the car in neutral and let them pull me until they start heading in a direction I don't want to go.

I THINK IT'S GONNA BE HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!! clap.gif

 Ghost,

I've done a lot of checking online in forums and stuff, for the most part everyone says very positive things about them.  In fact most people say they'd never go back to planting in the ground.

The only issue I've heard so far is that the thing is very heavy, expecially when watered so you have to make sure you hang it on a sturdy hook.

I've even found a couple sites showing how easy it is to make your own using nothing more than a 2 liter soda bottle, a glue gun, a pair of scissors and some wire.

If I had a glue gun I might try it.  But the cost of a glue gun would cost nearly as much as just buying the official topsy turvy

Really??  Hmm, I have all that stuff; I'll have to do a search on it and see how they're making those.  smile

Sounds great. Good luck with that. Just make sure the release mechanism works quickly. You know that some people are idiots when they drive. Maybe make sure your car kicks back into drive automatically after the hook is released. We can't have you getting hit from behind by other cars. That would not be productive.

Did you find the Topsy Turvy? I just read an article this morning saying they're recalling them because the stand breaks and smashes people's toes because it can't hold the weight.

But you can get a cheap glue gun at Michaels for about $10.

I found it economical to buy packets of Cream of Wheat or yummy Oatmeal and I eat those for lunch- just add hot water. They are more filling that you think. Add sliced bananas and you're set.

Or buy a big carton of plain yogurt and some frozen fruit. It goes a long way!

Hmm, I didn't find it and I guess maybe I won't bother looking any further.

A glue gun is probably the way to go, they're useful for so many other things, plus if I build one myself I can make it as strong as I need too.

I read somewhere that its cheap to cut ground beef with soy. not sure how much of a savings this is tho. maybe on a large volume it makes sense.

I am really pleased with how well I've been doing at the grocery store. Today I spent $55 and left with 10 bags of food. I've become the thriftmeister smile.gif

Of course, four of those bags were two liter bottles of soda. They had Diet Coke on sale for .79 a bottle! WOO HOO!

It can be hard to find 2 liter sods for less than $1 anymore. Good job by you.

at Cousin's subs, I like ordering mushrooms on my cheesesteak or rather right now on their delicious deluxe bbq bacon cheesesteak. mushrooms added cost nothing extra. thats a pretty good deal.
