Jigsaw Puzzles

I just wanted to share and let you all know I bought myself an actual jigsaw puzzle....yes, the one that you get in a box, and it's 1000 pieces.

Do any of you, besides boring me, do jigsaw puzzles anymore? I haven't done one in years, and I bought it just a week ago. I have such fond memories of doing puzzles as a kid w/ my mom at the beach house she used to rent for the month of August every summer. IF it was raining that is what we'd do inside!!

I have fond memories, too. My dad would set up our extra table, which was normally reserved for holidays, and it would stay in the living room for a few days with the puzzle spread out. Family members would sit and work on it whenever they felt like it. I usually would take on the "sky" pieces of the scenery ones. I loved having those puzzles out.

Anyone see the episode of The Simpsons where they did that? It was great. Reminded me so much of my family.

I haven't been actively doing them but I think we have 3 to put together. One year I made the mistake of telling my Mom that I wanted one for Christmas. She got her blind daughter a Mosaic wolf puzzle. I just wanted a regular one. I have to have a magnifying glass to try and put this thing together. It kinda turned me off. I wonder if I will try again after the floors dry up? I wonder how many pieces have been lost during the moves? hmm

*We used to do puzzles all the time. Then we'd glue them together and hang them up. We've got a really hard shaped dragon puzzle that we tried working on for a while and didn't get anywhere with it. Maybe we need to spread that out on the coffee table and work on it again. We also have the challenge of the cats trying to steal the pieces.

*"We" being Brian and I.  As a kid, I didn't do very many puzzles.

I did them when I was a kid. I have done them as an adult. I actually bought two puzzles during the winter months but never put them together. no.gif Shame on me. But I don't really have a place to put them. I need a table. I have done a 3D puzzle or two in my time as well.

I just don't have the patience, it's kind of like video games, I get bored with them easily and have to get up.

Wow that Mosiac Wolf looks really difficult!!

The one I am doing now is spread out on my kitchen island, and I am already angry because I have all the pieces out and one of the ones that make the frame is already missing. mad.gif

My grandmother has alzheimers, and it's been getting worse.

One of the things the doctors recommended was that she start doing various puzzles and such. For awhile we had her really into doing crosswords, but she eventually bored of that.

Now for the last year we've been getting her a ton of jigsaw puzzles and she absolutely loves it.

When she finsihed them my mom puts some kind of coating on them that makes them permanent, and each of her nine kids and 30 some grandkids are each going to get one. smile.gif

I love to put puzzles together, and have bought many of them over the years.  I took a couple of new ones up to the cabin back in May so I can work on them over the summer while I'm up there.  smile

my most fond memory of a jigsaw puzzle was when i purchased one for my younger brother for his birthday -- maybe 9 or 10. anyway, it was called verticalville and he put it together and glued it to a cardboard. it hung on the wall of his bedroom until he moved out and joined the airforce.

This is the puzzle I am doing at the moment, I have the top right hand side all done, down to the head of the man, and some of the tablecloth.

i've been tempted by that one. I don't think we ever bought it though. I know we have an eagle one where you are supposed to find the other hidden eagles in the picture.

lots of white on the one w/ the dragon... must be hard. I don't like a puzzle where the puzzle is mostly one color.

No white, Darlene. The puzzle is shaped as the dragon.
