Our community forum has grown in leaps and bounds in under three months, and I was going to discuss with the Jazz Doctor whether or not we should change up the forum, when it hit me, WHY NOT LET THE PEOPLE WHO USE THE FORUM MAKE THE DECISION!?!??!
So here's the question.
Right now, the forum is one big pile of threads, everything just gets placed into one area. The benefit of this is that it's easy to see EVERYTHING that people are talking about in one shot.
The negative of this is that items can quickly become buried and lost because the conversation is going fast and furious.
We have the option of creating an additional layer to the forum, which could break down the discussions into categories.
For example, when you clicked on the forum you would see let's say THESE categories...
General Discussion Sports Television Movies 80's Music American Idol (or other special categories as needed)
Each of these categories would have the standard smiley face if there is something new in them or the frown face if there is nothing new in them.
You could then go into the directy you want and get in on the discussion.
This can help eliminate threads that are of no interest to you (for example, if you do not like sports you'd never need to look at that thread) and therefore could save you some time.
On the flip side, it takes more navigating around if you want to read everything, and that could waste time.
My MAIN concern is that I wouldn't want it to reduce the amount of conversation because it's been splintered.
So, post a note in this thread, and let JD & I know what you think.
PS. Just for an example, I have temporarily instituted the additional layer, but there's only one category right now (freeze-Frame Radio)
I think it's worth trying. Dosen't sound like a bad idea to me. Maybe add an area dedicated to questions ? Such as : What band plays what song? Why is the sky blue ? If a tree fell down in the woods and nobody was around, would it make any noise? Seriously though I do think it sounds like a good idea. Go for it Riggs !!!!
I was wondering why I kept getting the General Discussion group first? I would say go for it and lets try it out. If afterawhile we don't like it or it isn't working we can go back to the way it was.
