I am reading a sequal to "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett called "World Without End". Alot of plot lines and interesting characters. The stories take place in 11th and 13th Centuries respectively. The Pillars of the earth was a fantastic book...too early to endorse the equal though.
I have a ton of books. I have a coworker who likes many of the same authors and she always gives them to me. But right now I am not into a new book yet. We are reading Nora Roberts: Sign Of Seven Trilogy and the 3rd book does not come out until winter I think.

It's about a trio of boys that share the same birthday who accidentally perform a ritual and the whole town goes haywire. They each develop some sort of gift. The town goes wonky every 7 years with a lot of violence. Some people are aware, others have no memory of the horrible events. They are trying to figure out how to capture what escaped and 3 women come into their life that also seem to be apart it. Basically a good vs evil series

Mz, I started that series too...I think I left it in book 3. Did he ever finish the series?
JD, thank you, thank you very much... for supporting the King's spoiled offspring. Your read on buddhism...I am sure there is some pearls of wisdom there. Anything spark your thoughts so far?

That sounds like a fun series...what are the names of the other 2 books in the series?

Yes, he did end up finishing it. (Or at least writing 4 more books.) I read the first 3 a long time ago, and then after he came out with the last one, I decided to pick it up again. I re-read the first 3 and now I'm about halfway through the 4th. The 4th isn't grabbing my attention like the others did.

Well D, its from a Nichiren Buddhist perspective. & the Nichirens are big on chanting. You may have noticed G-gal often prays for people "NMRK" which is short for a Buddhist devotional prayer/chant "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" which translates to "Devotion to the Mystic Law of cause and effect that exists throughout all the sounds and vibrations of the universe." Its in recognizing that one is interrconnected with, and not a seprate operative within the mystical law (or from a Christian persepective perhaps the "Breath of Life") that we can harness the power of it to work for us for the sake of good, inner peace, prosperity, happiness, inner-strength. The book explains how that isn't necessarily just idealism or a mind-trick, but can actually occur within the physical universe.

actually I came to it in college as a philosophy minor. It seemed to be both a very natural and practical approach to life to try and be at peace and to try and see oneself and all things as they truely are. Its the one philosophy I wanted to keep reading more on. It was the most inspiring and useful I felt.

I'm still reading MAD magazine....does that count?
as long as you read it and don't eat the covers. My husband doesn't read. He just eats the covers we say. He bought a book recently. I am still waiting to see if he will actually read it.

I've just finished a couple of Dean Koontz novels and a James Patterson... Upstairs I have another Koontz on the go, and today I went to the library with Martha and took 3 book myself. The one I have started this evening is called Blackout by Chris Ryan
"IF YOU WANT TO WALK ON WATER YOU'VE GOT TO GET OUT OF THE BOAT"
Our church did a Sunday School class going through that book about a year ago. I didn't do that class but those who did said it was really good. One of my friends was teasing me that I need to get out of my boat once in a while and I said "Hey, me playing bass in front of people is getting out of my boat every week." Being up front is not my nature.
I just started reading "The Heart of the Artist" for the second time. It is written for those serving in the church in artistic ways. I'm sure there are things I missed the first time, and this time I plan to take some notes and sharing the best points with the rest of our music team via the email list.
It addresses issues like excellence vs perfectionism, handling disagreements between team members, service burnout, etc.
