I spoke too soon, now I'm getting my butt kicked. Suddenly no matter what I have someone has something better. I had a flush queen high, they had a flush king high.
I love to play poker, but can never find any one to play with that doesn't want to play for real money.
My husband used to be a heavy gambler long before I met him. I'm so glad he doesn't do that anymore. His friends told me horror stories of how he'd lose most of his paychecks playing poker. I'd string him up if he ever did anything like that now.
Oh man! I just had a hand that made up my whole nights losses in one shot.
Five people at a texas hold em' table.
One guy bets 1600.00 (typicall betting starts at $100). ALL FIVE PEOPLE BID. I went in with a lousy Jack and five off suit, thinking what the hell if I lose I'll quit for the night.
The flop? Jack - Jack - Five!!!!
So I don't bet until the next card and everyone follows thinking i got nuthin'.
$20,000 in one hand. WOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Yeah, uh huh, right! The sharks spot you comin' a mile away and think "baby needs a new pair of shoes" while cleaning you out.
Ya know what other card game I haven't played in a really long time??....Euchre. We used to play a lot when we had family gatherings. I learned to play back when I was 15 or 16 while skipping school and hanging out at the local park with friends. I haven't played in almost 8 years.
Never heard of it??? OMG, what, did you live under a rock back in Milwaukee??
4 players, two on a team. 5 cards dealt out to each player, using only the 9s and higher. Five cards left--dealer places those face down on the table, turns top card over. Suppose a heart turns up. Each player has the option of passing on the heart that turned up, or any player can "order" the dealer to pick it up. If anyone tells the dealer to pick it up or the dealer picks it up on his/her own, hearts then become trump and Jack of hearts is now the highest card; known as the right bower; and Jack of Diamonds is second highest card, known as the left bower. The object is for each team to take the most "tricks". Example, Ace of spades is the first card played on the table.....each player takes turn playing a spade.....if he/she doesn't have a spade, you can play a lower card of another suit, or use a heart to take the trick. 3 tricks take a point, 4 tricks take 2 points, and if you play what's known as "playing alone" (meaning you have a great hand with lots of high cards and you don't want your partner to play with you) and you take all 5 trickes, you get 4 points. You used the 5s to keep track of points...each team gets two 5s.....first team to 10 wins. You can also lose points if your partner calls a suit trump and you and your partner take less than 3 tricks. Great card game!! Also a betting game to some people.
Oh man, I love Euchre! We play it every time we go to my dad's. Though we usually use 4's and 6's to keep score. I think we play it every time we go camping too. But it's one of those games that I think is easiest to learn when you watch people play. I learned it by watching all the adults play when I was growing up.
I don't know how to play bid Euchre though. And then there's a lot of people who add their own rules to it. I hate that. I'd rather just play it straight.
Very True.... look at what it does to people. Don't get me wrong I like the occasional trip to the casino or to the Slots, but I only take what I can afford to lose, and lately it hasn't been much, I haven't been going.
