A Freeze-Frame Welcome to SPARKY

Wow,

This has been a fantastic start to the New Year for the community forum!  We've been adding members left & right, and our newest is from my dream retirement state, SOUTH DAKOTA!

WOO HOOO!

Welcome aboard Sparky, we're glad to have you as a listener and hopefully a frequent poster.

Are you posting from home or work?  We're really excited about the growth our "second shift" has seen the past few months!

As everyone said, WELCOME!  What goes on in South Dakota?  It's on my list of places to one day visit.

Wow,

Both people that signed up yesterday used photo's of their dogs as Avatars.  It must have been Dog Appreciation Day!

Sparky, Good idea posting mostly at work, we highly encourage slacking Why post for free when you can be paid for posting

Somechick, There's not a lot in South Dakota, but what they DO HAVE is houses that would sell for $120,000 here going for about $20,000, and instead of 1/16'th of an acre, that price can often include 1 to 5 acres of land!

Of course, the big cities aren't like that, but some little towns throughout the state are HAVENS for low cost, NICE homes, and still only an hour or two drive from the big city!

Oh, they have Deadwood too, which ROCKS!  Like Vegas Old West Style!  Without the glitz and glamour.

Hi, Thanks for the welcome everbody! Somechick There are a few things to do in South Dakota, every August we have the Sturgis motorcycle rally which lasts a week or so. They cram 450,000 people into a town of 6000 residents. The upside is they have some of the top bands in the country! We also have Mount Rushmore and Deadwood (If you have HBO Deadwood is the town the series is about). Now its kind of like a smaller version of Las Vegas with that old west feel.

Jeremy, I Thought you were a mind reader when it came to describing SD. Or maybe its because we are so predictable out here. My office has glass behind me and in front of me so I can always tell if someone is looking over my shoulder by the reflection. Not to mention the infrared sensors and tin cans on the doorknob

Sparky,

I've taken a couple trips out to South Dakota, and was very close to moving to Edgewood on the far south west side of the state a few years ago.

I was looking at homes that would go for $80,000 here and they were $15,000 there!  Besides having some land, the view of the Black Hills out the windows was amazing.

I even subscribed to the Hot Springs Star for two years to kind of keep up with the area.

There's no way I can see spending tons of money on a house here now, expecially since the taxes are so high (thats another thing, the taxes are dirt cheap in most of your counties, and the heat and electric costs are a fraction of what we pay in Wisconsin).

My dream is to retire out there at about age 40 with just an internet business that I can run from out of my home in a nice little town of about 500 people.

I've been keeping up on this mansion that was built in a city called YALE, it's so funny.  The town looks like crap, like it's really run down and poor, but some guy went and built a mansion in the city now he can't unload it.  Originally it was going for half a million, I think two years later it's down to $350,000.  That place would EASILY go for 2 million if it were in a nice neighborhood here in Wisconsin.

MAN, I can't wait to save some money and move out there!
