The setting is way in the future. There are no humans living on earth because we have ruined the planet with our own trash and lavish lifestyles.
Wall-E is a trash compactor robot who is going about his daily business compacting trash with his little bug friend in tow.
Eve is a probe sent from the mother ship the human race is now living on in space because they've (we've) ruined the planet. All the humans on this ship are super fat and lazy and can't hardly move because everything is automated and easy for them.
Eve lands on earth and begins searching for something. She and Wall-E meet up and Wall-E falls in love. Eve finds what she is looking for and shuts down. Eventually the probe ship comes back to get Eve and Wall-E goes back with her.
When Eve gets back to the main ship where the humans are living, she presents what she's found and things get a little crazy from there.
At this point, I'll quit telling the story so I don't ruin it for anyone who may be going to watch it.
I thought the movie was "ok". It certainly wasn't as good as "Cars", but then it would be awfully tough for Pixar to top "Cars". The animation was as good as you'd expect for Pixar, and it had many cute parts, but it just didn't have that impact to suck you into it. I found myself checking the time and wishing it was over several times.
I can tell the boy enjoyed it, but he wasn't too impressed either. When he really loves a movie, he talks about it and acts out his favorite scenes. He hasn't done any of that since we left the theater.
I would say its certainly worth renting when it comes out, but I wouldn't suggest running out to the theater unless you have kids that are dying to go or just want a cute movie to go see. If you're looking for a blockbuster hit movie to go see, I don't think Wall-E would be your best choice.
