It's a Milwaukee vs. Tampa Bay WORLD SERIES!

clap.gif

The press conference is going on now.  It's a done deal.  C.C. is property of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Now let's hope the NL wins the All-Star game so that we can have four of the seven World Series games at Miller Park!

My Mom's 3 seat season ticket plan includes two of the last three games of the year to see the Cubs at Miller Park. Then she has first dibs at any and all playoff/series tickets.

Looks like I might be visiting Milwaukee for the entire month of October!!! clap.gif

Ah big deal. You can't judge a guy based on a start or two.

Too much is made of that stuff.

He was 1-0 with an ERA of 2.00 in his first playoff appearance.

Now if you have a track record like A-Rod in the playoffs maybe there's something to it, but I'm not worried about C.C.

He'll be fine :)

Yeah, but once the demon of "choking" is in your head, it's hard to shake it... every game he pitches in the Playoffs, will be reminded in his head of how he blew it in 2007 w/ the Indians..... He is cursed! that is something that is not easy to forget.

lol. U fuuuuuuuuuuuuuunny Darlene.

C.C. is a big boy, he'll put that stuff behind him. Besides, this year he'll be pitching for the best team in the NL. That'll give him all the confidence he needs.

Now don't you want us to beat those darn Rays after they deny you a playoff spot?!? confused.gif

Devil Rays are not that much of a threat to us yet. I do not hate them like I hate the Yankees. furious.gif It's not even the All Star Break yet, then we still have another half of year of baseball season to play.... in September, I'll give you my worries on Tampa Bay if they are still in 1st.

Yeah, well, sadly we won't be taking baby steps. This is the year, next year we're gonna have to struggle to reach third place possibly.

ESPN is saying it themselves, our pitching staff now matches up against anyone in the NL. Plus, the playoffs are 3 or 4 man rotations. We'll be well positioned to go all the way.

SERIES OR BUST BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Well, I agree with you there.  I hate the Yanks too.

I think a Tampa Bay / Milwaukee series would be great though.  Two teams new to the big stage.  Refreshing change from the money ball teams always being represented.

Well, if we have to beat down the Red Sox then that's what we'll do. I'm just hoping for the underdog.

The only bad thing is I think if Tampa Bay get's to the series against us the nation would be pulling for them over us. They seem like even more of a feel good story that the Brew Crew ending it's 26 year drought does.

I don't know where to start. So, let's start at what may seem like the beginning. Logical, right? First, you will have to excuse my giggling at your thinking that your Brewers will get to the World Series this year. That is like me saying the Phillies are going to the Series too. Second, that you think one pitcher will be able to turn the entire team around, you are silly. Third, I think the Brewers gave up way, way too much to rent a player for three months because four, you know CC will not stay in Milwaukee. They don't have the money, they are a small market and there is potential that they will trade Hardy and Fielder. Now, don't get me wrong, the Brewers are a bunch of youngins. They have tremendous potential and some of it has already shown through. However, some team with a ton of money somewhere will sign him for big $$. And I don't think the draft picks the Brewers will receive in return will be as good as they gave up.

Oh my. I could go on a little more, but I will regroup and await your reasons for why I may be wrong.

On a side note - go Tampa Bay. Why not give them an opportunity?

By the way JR, Jenkins still sucks. I can't understand why the coach keeps putting him in the lineup almost every other day. He can't even get a decent foul ball right now. Maybe he needs to go to AAA to work out his issues. I was down at the game Saturday night and Jenkins was useless, again. Unfortunately, he was in some key situations and was no help at all. You think we can trade him to the Brewers for a bag of balls?

Ok. Well.

The Brewers don't need one player to turn them around. They needed this one player to solidify their rotation. Make no mistake about it, we were going to win the wild card without CC, the difference now is we'll be formidable in the playoffs.

second. Don't be so sure about us not signing him. Odds are we won't. But our new owner is serious about winning. When he took over this team four years ago our payroll was 30 million a year and people were wondering if he'd go as high as 40. We're at 90 million now. A LOT of that money is due to come off the books next year. 36 million will drop off from CC, Sheets, Gagne and Cameron. It's not unthinkiable they'd use part of that to sign one or the other of these ace pitchers.

third. In a small market like ours they have to strike fast. Sure maybe we gave up a lot, but most experts don't think Cleveland got enough. LaPorta is ANOTHER Scott Boris player that would be here for a few years and then we'd be losing him to his excessive salary demands too. A player in the minors is a hope, a player in the majors is a fact. I'm good with what we've done. Our double A team alone has ten, COUNT EM' TEN, players going to their league all star game. That's amazing!

IF worst case scenario we lose both Sheets and CC we'll have five of the first thirty five picks in the amatuer draft a year from now. In Jack Zrudnick I trust. Hell, a year ago we didn't even have this LaPorta kid so what are we REALLY losing?

fourth. Fielder will only be traded if we get mammoth value back. Otherwise our management has assured us they have the financial plan to pay him for all of his arbitration years, which if he continues to play like he has this year won't be nearly as bad as we thought and he hoped.

fifth. I don't know where this Hardy stuff has come from, but a lot of people are erroneously under the impression we're trading him off. I'll say it again. Ownership assured the fans that they have a financial plan to keep all these young guys trhough their arbitration years if that's what is best for the team. Having said that, Hardy could be traded to make way for this Alcides kid if he's as good as he seems.

Finally. The Brewers are going to break 3 million at miller park this year. IN a town that has 1 million people. That's amazing! New York by contrast has 17 million people.

If the Yankees get 3 million people to come to a game it only takes about 15% of their entire population to be interested in the Yankees.

For the Brewers to do it every man, woman and child needs to AVERAGE 3 games a year!

We are incredibly supportive of this club and we're giving them the financial ability to compete that they never expected we would.

Now we have no big TV contracts, and we don't sell certain seats for $1500 per fanny, so we'll never have a $200 million dollar payrol. But $100 million is possible. And that means we can play with most of the big boys as long as we're smart about our signings.

To be honest. 7 years for $130 million to a pitcher isn't that smart in my eyes. If CC won't take a four year deal I'd let him walk.

Gallardo & Parra will be our aces for the next five years at a much lower price.

Whew!

Ok Fuzzy, your turn. You said you had more?

I was just thinking about him today, wondering what he thought of the Brewers makings such a huge signing.

Jenks is done I think.  Career over.  hmm.gif

Too bad though.  I almost wish he were here as a bench player or even a coach.  He was such a good guy.  One of those people who turned down more money in his peak years to stay with Milwaukee because he believed in our future.

Unfortunately when the future finally arrived he was past his peak and not part of it hmm.gif

I don't really have any more. I just wanted you to tell me how I was wrong. You know your guys much better than I do. I know you have a good, young bunch of guys. The thought was, were they going to be there together as a core the next couple of years? Every team needs pitching. We know this to be the basis of trying to build a winning team. And you know that just because management says they won't trade Fielder, doesn't mean they won't. Things happen. Although, with years of arbitration to come, there is plenty of time to keep him.

And I never doubted that true fans of any team support them in good times and bad. Then there are the bandwagon fans. Phillies fans are different from Eagles fans, and the Phillies just had their 25th sellout in around 40-45 home games this season.

Wow! 25 sell outs is great Fuzz!

Yeah, we've supported the club since Miller Park. To be honest the last few years at County Stadium we barely drew a million.

But I don't blame people for not supporting the Selig / Bando regime. It was like having a pair of circus clowns running the team.

Anytime they made a penny pinching move they'd tell the fan base baseball is a business and we should just deal with it. But then a month later Bando would bitch publicly about how no one was coming out to watch his 100 loss teams.

Apparently it's only a business when it's convenient for him. Otherwise he'd understand that producing a crappy product results in low sales.

I love talkin' baseball. I hope you and Darlene don't take my passion for the game and my love of a little smack-talk as me being argumentative with you.

As a Brewer fan I haven't really been able to strut around and shoot my mouth off in about 25 years. I just gotta make the most of this year because I realize all too well it may be awhile before we find ourselves in this position again.

Selig is an idiot.

And trash talking is fun. I'll do it for any sport. I am just not always informed. But I am good for dishing it out and taking it. That is what makes us fans, right?

I still think you would have a good time in Philly seeing the Brewers lose, I mean play, in September.

So how many strikeouts past his all-time record is Howard gonna go this year Fuzz? wink.gif

We think he is going to hit 300. Right now he has 123. So 300 may be too high, maybe it will only be 250. I am not sure what it says when your $10m man (thanks arbitration) is hitting about .220 with 23 HR and 76 RBI. I just don't understand how that can be. no.gif Guaranteed he won't be earning $10m next year. The Phillies only wanted to pay him $6m this year. They must have known something.

Arbitration is messed up. I have to say though, those homer and RBI numbers are mighty beefy despite the strikeouts. I knew he had the homers, but didn't know about the RBI's. With all those strikeouts I thought you had your own Russel Branyon on your hands.

But clearly Howard produces despite his low average and high strike out total.

Man. He'd probably have 100 RBI ALREADY if he were hitting 290 and putting the ball in play more often.

That is what I mean. How can this guy with all the strikeouts and a .220 average have the league lead in RBI? I don't get it. And the shift they put on for him takes a lot of hits up the middle away. If he could learn to hit to left field more, they wouldn't shift as much and he would hit more balls back up the middle.
