Diggin on the Auto Request!

Man o Man! Freeze Frame Radio is literally THE free internet jukebox. A good portion of the songs requested after Tuesday night's Back To The Future show were by me! I hope that the day time listeners, when in the mood to rock out at night, tune in to Freeze Frame Radio and request heavily! And to our 3rd shift listeners- here you go- any song from the request list is available at your command! You can literally dominate the programming of the station over the evening hours! It becomes your station, your requests, your programming! That is the power of you being an internet dj- bringing the songs you love and request to a world-wide audience! GET IN HERE!

I know you have a ton of shows that introduce new music weekly, But what would you think of a 'Request Free' day, maybe once a month....When I first started listening to FFR, there were so many songs I hadn't heard in forever, & It reminded me of titles & artists I never thought I'd hear again, but I noticed a trend w/ the auto playlist, ALOT of the same songs have been getting played Over & Over again, (remember the stretch w/ Stacy's Mom, 1985, & Vertigo every 4 hours or so when the ARS started up) It's not that I don't like those songs, & i'm guilty of playing the same songs over & over, but I like hearing stuff I haven't heard in a while...That's why I bring up the idea of a once a month "request free" day...new songs, old songs that just don't get the play cuz people have forgotten about them, but would love to hear em again....things like that...thoughts?

This is a very good point, I'll defer to Riggs. Perhaps some work-time limits on the requests need to be made. Would HATE for the station to become too repetative due to requests. Thanks for bringing this too our attention MO!

Yes, that's one of MANY concerns we have to consider with the station.

I've certainly noticed it as well, and each song goes in a cycle of sorts, where suddenly it's being requested every day and usually around the same time.  As a result the playlist is almost exactly as it was the previous day, just in a different order.

One thing that will help is the continued growth of the collection, right now people have 2200 songs to choose from (and up until recently it was 1950), eventually we'll have 5000 and that will obviously create a much bigger pool for people to pull from.

I'm also considering setting up and going back on occassion to something we did when we first started the station, and calling it a "FLASHBACK" day.

When Freeze-Frame Radio first started, the ENTIRE concept of the station was that it was stuck 20 years in the past.

SO, for example, today, we would have been ONLY playing songs that were on the Hot 100 from January 19. 1985, this included the SMALL hits that don't get played on the air much anymore (something that maybe only got as high as #80 on the charts).  We would play occassional music that had come BEFORE 1985, because that would have been available at that time, but ANYTHING after 1985 would not be played because it didn't exist.

I may go ahead and do that once a week or once a month.  I always enjoyed it because it reminded me of many minor hits I had totally forgotten.

Lastly, I can drop the request limit from 3 to 1 for every 30 minutes, this would allow me to mix more music into the fold, but I'm hesitant to do that because I fear people would be disappointed and start searching elsewhere for a station where they can request more freely.

JD & I would both like to hear more from you guys in this thread about these issues.  What do you all think?  Let us know.
