I wanted to let everyone know that as of this morning we have increased the size of the REQUEST SYSTEM PLAYLIST from 2200 songs to 3750 Songs! That means there are 1550 NEW ADDS for you to choose from!
The way we've set it up, is that our REGULAR playlist, the songs the station will play when no one is requesting music, is mostly Top 40 hits from the 80's with a little music from the 90's & today mixed in.
The majority of what we added last night are ONLY available to be played via request because they are deep cuts from albums of the 80's & 90's. Songs that charted but didn't in most cases make the top 40. There are also more songs from the 70's as well.
We are continuing to build our request database and will reach our goal of 5000 available tracks by spring.
ENJOY!!!!
PS. We still want your input on artist's you think are missing from the list! Let us know who else you'd like to see included & we'll do our best to accomodate you!
Great news about the playlist, its getting so big now it takes me ages to choose a request!!
One thing I wanted to ask was if you could add any more Green Day, I know there not totally the right sound for the station, but the tracks you have allready put on are great, theres a couple more that I really like and wanted to see if you would consider them, they are 'Poprocks and coke' and 'Basket case', also what do you think about a bit of johnny cash?
If these arnt the right flavour for the station thats cool, just thought i would ask!
Would anyone object to a little Sinatra? I think LA is My Lady, New York, New York, and of course the Married with Children theme--Love and Marraige may fit well with the station.
When loading up the new music yesterday my EXTENSIVE Frank Sinatra collection and the Johnny Cash discs were skipped (even though I didn't want to) because I just didn't know if it was something the listeners would accept.
Obviously, we push ourselves as an 80's pop station, so I'm leary to get too far away from that, but then again, when the playlist is determined by requests how can you go wrong?
At any rate, I'll add some music from both of those artists, AND I'm going to listen to the two suggested Green Day songs and most likely I'll add them. The only thing I'm adamant about staying COMPLETELY away from are RAP and HEAVY METAL.
Heavy Metal I can get into, but I've seen over and over again that it sends listeners running because it's so jarring in the middle of a bunch of pop/rock
RAP music, well, I won't get into it, but rest assured the day a rap song is played on our station will be the day they're lowering me into the ground in a wooden box!
You see, Tone-Loc, Young MC., Run DMC, and the others were what they USED to get Rap onto the radio.
The rap fans fooled us into thinking Rap music was harmless, humorous music so that it would get airplay. Then when it did they kicked the door down with artists like Tupac, 50 Cent, and the other hard core, filthy mouthed, sexist, violence loving rap artists.
Oops, I've probably said too much
I'm SUPPOSED to try to stay nuetral on the boards. This is not an easy accomplishment for me
Ok I see where your coming from, and i do really agree with you about not having proper rap/hip hop on freeze frame, we are not here for that type of music, I do like that "hard core, filthy mouthed, sexist, violence loving rap" but i have cds of that stuff and dont think its appropriate for radio.
keep up the good work.
PS im looking forward to seeing the request system you just mentioned!!!
See, THATS why I have to stay neutral, you never know who likes that stuff!
Since you do like that music, I have to ask, what would you say the appeal of it is?
I mean, I'll admit, I don't like it, so I can't HONESTLY say I have a full grasp of what it all sounds like.
But to me, it's an angry music, that only darkens my spirit after having heard it.
It's message is almost always about either killing someone, collecting as much material stuff as you can, or demeaning women, oh, and vulgarity, lots and lots of vulgarity.
I truly am mystified at the allure it has for the teenagers in this country. I mean it's hilarious to see some white kid from the suburbs who's never had to live a moment in harms way walking down the street singing along to the latest 50 Cent song. And make no mistake about it, I acknowledge I am in the DISTINCT minority. The charts for the last 10 years prove that. But I find it absolutely disgusting that about 70% of the Hot 100 today is NOT suitable for kids unless you can get your hands on the "clean" version.
I just don't get it. Can you shed some light on it for me? I'm honestly interested in knowing!
There has been the occassional rap song that I've kind of listened to as a guilty pleasure, but it's usually one that's tamer and has some kind of interesting message to it. I loved Eminems "Stan", but it had a good message, a good chorus (courtesy of Dido), and limited swearing.
PS. One other note, you and I actually seem to agree completely. Believe me, I'm NOT in favor of censorship, I think ANY music should be available for purchase is someone wants to buy it. You hit the nail on the head though with the "It's not appropriate for radio". What frustrates me with that is that the labels essentially FALSELY ADVERTISE the music by getting their CLEAN version on the air, and then when some 14 year old hears it and wants to go buy it they're gonna get the real version! I sold CD's on the internet for about 7 years and used a major distributor to do it, I can tell you, getting your hands on the clean version of a rap album is next to impossible.
Wait wait...You have Johnny Cash, And you DIDN'T put it on the playlist? If I were you I would have put it on there whether anyone liked it or not. It's FREAKIN Johnny Cash!!
Sounds like we'll be keeping you busy for a while huh?
I think you guys are really going to like the new request system if we can ever get it operational. It will make searching for your music SO much easier. Hopefully we'll figure it out soon.
