Ideal Mental Health Day?

I read that fuzzy is taking friday off for a mental health day, and that involves her going to a winery for a taste.

I am completely out of vacation and sick time until September. So No Mental Health Days for me for over a month. But I am soooo due!!

What would your ideal mental health day be? Somethin where you technically don't go on a vacation, but just take a day away from work?

For me, I like to go to this park by the lakefront to watch the sun rise over the water.
I then go to this bagel place and get locs and bagels and a big coffee and sit on their patio and watch people rush off to their days, thankful that I don't have to rush.

I'll then head over to the glen by my house, and hike around in there for awhile.

Because I got up early, I'll take a short nap.

For lunch, I'll go to the store and get some fixins to grill up. I'll spend part of the afternoon doing that.

I might head to the library for awhile to find somethin to read, or head to the coffee shop with somethin to read for awhile.

Maybe another walk somewhere, and by then its 5 pm. Let the evening begin.smile

Last June I took a mental health day, on a Friday of course. We were going through one of those weeks where we had beautiful, cool weather in the mornings - 65 degrees at 8am. I stayed with a friend the night before, was up early, went back to my house, had a light breakfast, got cleaned up and then went for a long bike ride on the trail. The trail winds through the greens, so there isn't too much scenery. It really was peaceful. And because it was a Friday morning, there wasn't really anyone else around. I don't have a definitive milage count, but I know that I rode at least 12, if not 15 miles that day. I kept a nice pace and rode for close to an hour and a half. I hadn't been riding for a while so I took it easy. I was afraid that if I rode too far I would be too tired to get myself back home. But it all turned out well. After that, I took myslef home, had some lunch took a shower and went on with my day. I think I may have also run some small errands and spent time in the sun in the afternoon.

The point was mainly that is was not a thinking day, no stress, I did things on my schedule. For a short time I didn't think, worry or care.

WOW... you guys get all creative with your mental health days. I take what my friend Jewel refers to as 'Jackie-O Days'. Basically, it is a hang out at the house, lounge around in something nice but comfortable, fix me something good to eat, maybe read a book or something like that. Sometimes go shopping and buy me something nice if I feel like leaving the house, but mostly I just stay home and hide from humanity.

Hm... I'd sleep in late, check into the forum and write in my blog. I'd probably play some video games, watch whatever cooking show is on PBS that day, and eat a sandwich, soup, and or salad for lunch.

Then I'd go swimming and hang out by the pool and read a book for a while.

Then I'd pour a glass of wine and take a long pampering bath, shave, and paint my toenails.

Then I'd grab my laptop and walk to Starbucks, drink coffee, and piddle around on the computer for a while.

By that time, it would be sure to be 5, so I'd walk home and actually make something for supper (instead of throwing stuff together like I normally do). I'd probably make some fresh bread in the breadmaker, and maybe even get the ice cream maker going during supper.

Come on Woo. Surely you need to practice this then. I practice it just once in a great while, more or less when I just can't take it anymore around the office and I need some time to myself. I generally take a "sick" day because I have a couple of those available to me. Except, since I am not exactly sick, I don't want karma striking me for improper usage. I took to calling them "mental health days" way back when. That sort of fits in the "sick" category. This, of course, saves my vacation time for fun activities or around the holidays.

Okay. But bring fruit so we can dip it in chocolate, champagne is okay, drop the peanutbutter and bring the whip cream instead.

I spend all my free time in my bed so I'd prolly do more of the same.

One thing I like to do during the summer is chill with my son. Sometimes we go swimming. Sometimes we just ride around in the car, listening to his rap music. We always stop at 7-11 for whatever he feels like getting...energy drinks, gatorade, candy, donuts...whatever. Those are always fun times.

I have a guilt problem. If I know he has to go to work, then I feel guilty unless I truly am sick. hmm Plus everytime we have joked about staying home we have had the maintenance guys coming- so it was pointless. Calling in will be a lot easier now though. My hubby is the one who takes those calls now. I get to roll over and call in. But in reality I will be trying to get up and go to work and he will be yelling at me telling me that I am not going- lol

Okay. Keep the champagne. I am just not a big fan. But maybe that is since I don't have it often. But you know all I want right now is chocolate covered strawberries and wine (or champagne).
