What little known CD do you cherish?

Just playing the role the Jazz Doctor usually takes and trying to start some interesting new topics.

So what little known artist's CD do you have that you love?  Perhaps you can turn some of us onto someone new!

For me, it's Suzanne Rhatigan, her disc is titled TO HELL WITH LOVE, and was released in the late 80's I beleive (maybe early 90's).  It's got kind of a bluesy sound to it that I really enjoy.  I had seen her on a late night talk show and liked the song, so I started a search for the CD.  It wasn't easy because no one was carrying it, and it was before the days of the internet.

I eventually did find it, but it turned out the disc only sold like 20,000 copies!

Another good one for me and one I'd recommend to almost anyone is Quarterflash's LAST album.  Obviously they were a semi-popular group in the 80's, but their last album BACK INTO BLUE was almost completely ignored despite being in my opinion their best disc.

It had a really good sound to it, with the horns really taking center stage on most of the songs.  Songs like WALKING ON ICE, BACK INTO BLUE, CAUGHT IN THE RAIN and I WANT TO BELEIVE IT'S YOU just really kind of set a mood from the minute they start playing.

If you get a chance to buy the disc (it's long out of print so you'd have to get a used copy), and you liked Quarterflashes 80's hits, DEFINATELY TRY THIS ONE OUT!

I love Bang Tango's "Psycho Cafe".  Don't know why, but I love it.  We need some Bang Tango on the playlist.  "Someone Like You" was there only big hit that I know of.

Black Crowes "Southern Harmony and the Musical Companion". Rolling Stones "Stickey Fingers". U2's "Joshua Tree". If I were stranded on an island, these 3 cds and a player would keep me sane. Heck, they keep me sane right now sans the island!!!!

Oh, "Little Known" cds. My bad. Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" is really the heart of jazz. Would need that. Gene Harris's Greatest Hits on the Blue Note label- PHENOMENAL PIANO PLAYER YOU CANNOT BE UNHAPPY WHILE LISTENING TO HIM OR KEEP YOUR FEET STILL!! Sex Pistols "Never Mind the Bullocks" is great for excercise like shadow boxing or jumping rope.

All of them have personal meaning to me. I could never narrow this down.

Robbie Williams- The Ego Has Landed  He's huge in Europe, but never quite had the same impact on the US.  Love this cd, love the songs, very much a reminder of a college friend of mine.

Steve Agrisano-You Are the Way   Christian singer that has a limited following and whose cd I got several years ago but can't seem to find online anywhere.  Met him back in 96 at a music camp and  my life was changed forever.

Jon Faddis-Into the Faddisphere  Trumpet player.  The first time I heard this cd I was blown away.  His range is unbelievable.

I've come to really like Robbie Williams too, but I haven't gone back and purchased some of his older stuff.

I just heard him AGAIN on a late night talk show and was amazed at how he worked the audience, he has a ton of charisma which really is lacking in a lot of todays performers.  He almost reminded me of a modern day Jim Morrison or for a more recent example Michael Hutchence.

I bought ESCAPOLOGY and really liked it, particularly the song COME UNDONE, which I would LOVE to add to our playlist, but unfortunately he drops the F-Bomb once or twice, and in case people are listening out load at their jobs I don't think that's a good idea.  I've also been told by a few listeners that they listen with their children from time to time, so, again, not a good idea.

Maybe I can edit a clean version to get it on the air.  I do love that song!

I don't even know how I got into him. I think I had just seen the video for "Millenium" and I was hooked.  I'd love to see Strong or She's the One in the rotation.

Escapology is great.  If you could add him, that'd be awesome!

JD, I was 14 when I first heard that cd, and I was hooked.  Same goes for Maynard Ferguson.  Just amazed at the both of them.

I;ve seen Maynard several times in person, and he is incredible!  However, the last time I saw him was a few years ago at a high school in MD, and he played a lot of new and wierd stuff, imho anyway, and very little of what he is known for, so that wasn't so good, again imho!

Somechick did you catch Maynard at Rainbow Summer last time he was around? 80 yrs old and still at it. I used to have noisy neighbors, so, to tick them off I would throw on some Maynard and crank it up. That upper register is great for annoying people who don't like it!!!

The last time I got the chance to see him was...let's see, 4 years ago. Everytime he comes to town I'm already either out of town or have plans, which sucks because I know he's still got it.

I hope this year he'll grace us with another performance in the area.

Regarding clean "Robbie" Songs, yeah he only needs one name in England!

Theres loads you could add, he only really started swearing a bit on Escapology!

The album somechick mentioned is actually a mix up of his other albums, that particular album was never relased here in the UK, but a great song of his of his first album, "life thru a lens" is called "one of gods better people", its fantastic, and "Angels" is outstanding, he gets a bit of stick here in the uk, for coming from a boy band background, but is one of our most succsesful artists at the moment, I have all his albums since he left Take That!

My little known CD, is by a couple of radio djs from the UK, who go under the name Mark and Lard aka Mark Radcliffe and Mark Reily, the used to do a show together on BBC radio 1, but the now have there own show on diffrent bbc radio stations, www.bbc.co.uk/radio

Anyway back to the CD, well they made a couple of albums under the name "SHIREHORSES" and they performed parody songs of popular tracks, the album I have is called "OUR KID EH" it includes a parody of the above mentioned Robbie Williams song Angels, classic comedy parodys!! but don't listen if easily offended though!!!!
